Prime drinks. What's all the fuss?

My local FB is all a buzz about where (almost nowhere) has them in stock. Someone's found a newsagent that has them for £10 each. This seems to be good news. What on earth are they?

It's an over hyped drink popular with older teens. So the younger kids want to drink it as well.

Its promoted by a couple of youtubers

Rowthe · 11/12/2022 12:19

The official stockists are Asda and a place in London. Or you can buy it from their website.

But its frequently sold out.

My brother works in Asda. He says you have to go to the customer service counter first thing in the morning to buy it. And the kids have figured out the best time to go so they can make sure they get it. So again it gets sold out as soon as it is stocked.

But apparently its taste is nothing special.

Well that's bonkers. People are spending £10 on back market soft drinks? Is it supposed to have special properties?

Admittedly I don't use fb or asda but have never heard or seen of these drinks. Good marketing ploy though to create hype

My 14 year old nephew was telling me all about this. Absolute madness.

He is at least a savvy enough kid just to fill the one Prime bottle he has with water every day, instead of getting involved in the endless expensive pursuit of buying (or trying to buy) more.

Ha, bright kid your nephew, he'll go far 😁

doorheckk · 11/12/2022 12:41

What does back market mean? They are just run of the mill hydration drinks created by and marketed by two popular youtubers. Thats it. The same way people buy other celebrity merchandise.

It was a typo, I meant black market, which is presumably what the £10 ones in the newsagent are if they're not official stockists.

@KateBalesCardi He buys 8 packs of Fanta from Asda on his way to school for £3 and flogs them for £1 each at break time. I'm hoping he'll be the next Alan Sugar Grin

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 11/12/2022 12:44

It’s absolutely crackers. Lots of parents wailing that they need it for their kids. Bought my kid the pinkish one just so he could say he’d had some and we agreed it was absolutely vile.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/12/2022 12:51

It's driving me mad. My 11yo is obsessed and has asked for one for Xmas. There's a ridiculous black market going on in his school. I refuse to pay £10 for what is essentially a bottle of squash. If I happen upon some I'll get one but otherwise no. I've seen desperate pleas on FB too. Honestly, it's madness.

Rowthe · 11/12/2022 18:20

I think it's about £2 a bottle. But people are buying and reselling for more.

I only know this much cos we got a school notification telling us Prime isnt allowed in School and it would be confiscated,.so did a little research.

It contains bcaa's some kind of proteins compound, and is supposed to be hydrating but isnt an energy drink, so at least no caffeine.

LeonoraFlorence · 11/12/2022 19:57

I saw it in a shop today for £24.99! Madness.

Pineapplebread · 11/12/2022 20:07

Pretty much the cheapest youtuber "merch" you can get, so kids like it as its more affordable then a hoodie or whatever and there's always been the popular drink crazes, I remember everyone going nuts for sunny delight and trying to get it in the late 90s.
Kids follow trends and people hijack trends to make money.

Rowthe · 11/12/2022 20:39

I remember when people went nuts for Dasani, everyone had a bottle.

It was the bottle to have.

Until it came out it was treated tap water.😂

Gingersay · 11/12/2022 21:57

Someone on dh's Facebook just bought 8 bottles for his kids at £10 a bottle, that's just ridiculous!

scoutcat · 11/12/2022 22:02

My ASDA had some a few weeks ago and I was in the energy drink aisle buying Lucozade for my hospital bag but the amount of children and teens coming down the aisle and being excited about it being there was insane! I jumped on the hype and bought the blue raspberry flavour because I loooove blue raspberry.

It was waaaay too sweet and didn't even taste of raspberry. I was very disappointed.

Then I put the bottle in my handbag but didn't put the lid on properly and it emptied out inside it so now I'm even less impressed 🤣

Trumpetpants · 11/12/2022 22:08

A shop in Wakefield sells them for £20 each! I got some in local Asda for £2 a bottle. Limit of 3 bottles per person and queued along with schoolkids, and Grandma's but all gone by 7.15am

imalreadygone · 31/12/2022 15:08

Is it fizzy?
