I waste my evenings

I hardly do anything!

I am a single parent (one teenager at home) so I am stuck in the house in the evenings a lot.

I just waste so much time. Tonight I have emptied the dishwasher, wrapped a few presents, half watched the football (I’m not English or French) and read a chapter of a book. That still leaves several hours of not really doing anything at all.

Occasionally dc will watch something with me for an hour or we will play a game of cards but most of the time they are happy in their room.

I wish I had the motivation to clean something or learn a skill but I don’t. I’m bored but can’t be bothered at the same time! Is anyone else the same?

If you want to stretch your brain a little then try Duolingo. Simple and can be easily done from your sofa.

If you're better in the morning why not be productive then?

I'm useless after eight thirty in the evening, but pre eight thirty I'm full of energy.

Why not get up half an hour earlier and go to bed half an hour earlier and see if you can make that thirty minutes more useful when it's the start of the morning and you're more motivated?

You're a grown up - you are allowed to go to bed at nine thirty every night if you like Grin

I find I get a lot done because I have the radio on in the kitchen all evening, and a no TV before 8pm rule. I like listening to the radio and do stuff. It could be organising a cupboard, bake bread, water the plants, sort the recycling, fold the washing, do a jigsaw puzzle (my favourite) or whatever. But not having to watch something free up a lot of time.

That's great advice thank you! When I absolutely need to get something done, podcasts get me through so I'm going to start a "no TV before 9pm" rule and just use podcasts until then and I'm sure I'll be much more productive!

Love this.

apologies if I’m misunderstanding, but why can’t you go out in the evening if your only child is a teenager? I don’t mean necessarily “out out” if they’re a young teen, but I’d pop to the gym/ running club/ book club.

I'm not at all productive in the evenings. My days consist of work, housework and looking after kids. Once they are in bed around 8pm I either watch telly , read or have a bath. I would only do tasks onan evening if I had to. I'm in bed for 930 😂 as I'm up at 615. At weekends dh and I each get a layin and we get up a bit later round 730 so I do stay up till 10/11 but we usually put a gum on or play a game.

I hear you. I work four days. Day off is spent prepping lessons etc so can have weekend off. Yesterday did some baking,no proper meals eaten, spent hours on mumsnet. Lonely, knackered, dealing with bereavement of partner through suicide and got a cant be arsed attitude. Not good. Take care all.
