Where can I find a casserole dish big enough?

In chat because I had no idea where to put it….

Im going to have family over around Christmas and I’m planning to cook a dish with 3 small birds. I need a casserole to put them all in and then cook in the oven.
The one I have (Le Creuset type if oval casserole) works great fur two of them but won’t accommodate 3 birds.

Any idea where I can find something like this? The only stuff bigger than what I have seems atrocious price wise (£100 and over - not even a nice brand)

What capacity is your current one? I have a Croc Pot slow cooker, where the inner pot comes out and can be used in the oven, and that's 7ltr. It's also oval. I have an 8ltr cast iron pot which has less usable space for things like this, because it's round. My croc pot can fit a whole leg of lamb.

What are the the three birds, easier to imagine size if we know what they are?

BiliousOhGod · 10/12/2022 19:02

Sorry! X-post. Mine was under £50, but it was a while ago...

Does it need to be hob-safe? How about a stainless steel roasting tin (I have a fab one from IKEA) and covering with foil?

As households downsize, charity shops can be good for this type of thing.

GreenTeaTuesdays · 10/12/2022 19:06

I agree on charity shops - If not Amazon have loads if you need it asap

That's true. A chicken, wood pigeon and quail would need less room then a swan, peacock and ostrich.

In answer to your question, Tkmaxx is often good for dishes.

No swans to eat here 😜😜 … but 3 faisans.

Can you just cover a big roasting tray with foil?

At the moment, that’s what looks like the best option.

any asian wholesaler in your area?
they usually have stock pots that might be big enough.
alternatively - separate pots per bird...

Moonatics · 10/12/2022 20:27

Amazon? I've a 8lt round dish that's hob, oven, dishwasher safe about 25 quid. Its cast iron but thinner than le crueset so not as heavy. Solid enough though. Or an 8lt slow cooker thing that the pottery bit can go in the oven? Slow cooker thing is oval. About 35 quid.

VahineNuiWentHome · 10/12/2022 20:27

Great idea @Evenstar ! Thank you!

Indian or Middle Eastern supermarkets often have cheap but giant pots.
