Would you buy Incandescent Christmas tree lights? Who's right?

Settle a disagreement here Smile

We'd moved to LED fairy lights previously, which had that harsh piercing glare & 8 million ways to flash Hmm I hated them. Even the 'warm white' I find too bright.

Now they've died & I'm shopping for replacements I was surprised to see you can still get strings of the old fashioned, warm, glowing, incandescent bulbs! I'm temptedWink😃

DH is not impressed. As he says, they're energy inefficient, can get too warm, & you need to buy replacement bulbs. Some won't work at all unless you replace the one faulty bulb. Sad

He's also looking at waterfall lights with a top ring Shock www.amazon.co.uk/Dekofun-Christmas-Waterproof-Waterfall-Decorations/dp/B0B4CW7W9P/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=2EM9RA2TGG61Z&keywords=christmas+tree+lights+warm+white+with+top+ring&qid=1670664766&sprefix=christmas+tree+lights+warm+white+with+top+ring%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-5

So, can I go sentimentally 'traditional' & get the incandescents (to recreate that soft glow of the past) or am I being too unrealistic? Grin

FFS. Feet washing, competitive daily chores, and now this. Just go buy whatever.

I didn't know you could still get them! The soft glow is much nicer than the glare of LEDs.

Yep, I'm in your team! But then I dislike harsh fluorescent lights & main room lights too.

I'm all about the soft glow here Smile

I use the filament ones - they only cost £4.99 from the Range, they've lasted 5 years so far, and the house hasn't burnt down yet.

I love them!

But yes, if you want to leave them on for hours when you go out, the LED ones are safer.

Very sensible TheYear Smile Looks the part, but safety conscious too.

I rarely go out (chronic illness) so that suits me fine! Thank you.

@SkyView you can get 'warm' LED lights. I've got them as I don't like the harsh white glow either. They have settings on them so you can put them on steady if you don't want them to flash.

Something I've seen people do around here is put warm white LED lights AND coloured filament lights on the tree. It looks great when they are all lit (the glow from the old style lights softens the look), and when they go out they can just leave the white LEDs on, and since it is only half a tree's worth of lights it doesn't look like a lighthouse.

I found a set of old fashioned coloured ones a couple of years ago - still working. They will be sharing our tree with a set of warm white LEDs - I actually found some STATIC ones in Wilko* yesterday - with a green cable too. I bloody hate the flashing multifunction ones you have to faff with to find the ‘steady on’. The Asda set I also bought recently are particularly faff-iferous - will not now be using them.
£5 for 100 if anyone’s interested - they also had 200 for £9.50.
