I love crafting, but I'm on a low budget and I don't have a dining table or desk to sit at, so it's either use the coffee table or kitchen work surface. I also have cats who like to get involved!

I've tried diamond painting, but didn't enjoy it. Can't do jigsaws as the cats knock the pieces on the floor and I'd have to pack it away every day. I'm not artistic. I used to knit and tried to learn to crochet, but I hate making large things and don't like knitting small toys or things that need stuffing. I have a kit to make a mini house but there are so many pieces, none labelled, it's very complicated.

Just thought maybe someone had a craft hobby that I might enjoy?

What about knitting squares for Woolly Hugs?

You can create your own cross stitch designs on graph paper and colour them in...then use as a pattern...then you have essentially got 2 crafts - the design part and the stitch part?

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/12/2022 13:02

Not all small cross stitch kits are twee and you could start with a very small one and get something a bit bigger when you’re more confident.

You could knit or crochet a scarf or a hat or a blanket. Or square that you join together.

If you like cross stitch but not twee designs , have a look for Mr X stitch for alternative stuff. Not kits but a magazine of designs.

Some great ideas, thanks.

I do have a crochet blanket from Attic24 on the go, been working on it for seven years 😂

I've started squares for woolly hug before, I never get round to sending them off though 😳 Also knitting isn't too easy with two kittens around! In fact that goes for most things!

Love the etsy cross stitch kits, thanks, I'm sure I'll find something.

I've downloaded a jigsaw app, I do like them, but hate all the ads.

A lot of hospitals are always after knitted hats for newborn babies if that helps for small projects that will keep wee babies heads warm just after they enter the world! Maybe ask your local hospital maternity unit and they would go over the colours they use as they normally put red/green in depending on observational care levels baby requires

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 11/12/2022 19:06

Last time I looked into knitting hats for preemies the hospitals were saying they're inundated with knitwear. I'd be happy doing those though, nice and small, although again whether I'd actually post them is another thing!

I do make terrariums, but have now run out of space 😂

Just to say, love the username OP!

I have been doing those scratch off art things to relax while mum was very ill, but that's not very arty. I was thinking an acrylic wash over them maybe, they do look nice.

Thanks, you know where the name is from? 😊

I’ve not seen those, used to love them as a child, where do you buy them?

Sorry your mum has been ill 😔

Yes 😊 I’m loving the album!

Thank you, I think I’ll get one as something calming to do. I’ve got colouring books but tend to get frustrated and go over the lines 😬

I've ordered a kit to knit a pair of socks on a small circular needle to start with.

I've also looked at some cross stitch kits, there are some gorgeous samplers on Etsy I'd like to try, but will have to wait until after Christmas as they're a bit more expensive. I've seen lots of other lovely things that I've added to my basket for later, including macramé, crochet.

I like the look of the scratch art, also added to my basket on Amazon!
