Calcific tendonitis - any one had this and have tips for coping with the pain?

I've been having shoulder pain for quite some time (years) I've had NHS physio, private physio, acupuncture, kinesthetic tape, chiropractor and osteopath but nothing has helped.

The pain affects my every day life and disrupts my sleep as its so difficult to get comfortable. A recent x-ray has shown I have calcification (calcific tendonitis).

Anyone have any tips for coping with and reducing the pain? For full disclosure I am am unpaid carer and don't have the correct equipment at home yet (ceiling track hoists etc) so I am doing a lot of lifting and manual handling around 30 times a day so resting is unfortunately not an option. I am doing my physio exercises and alternating hot and cold on the shoulder but the pain is excruciating and I want to rip my own arm off just to escape it.

Also any tips for sleeping would be greatly appreciated. I have an adjustable bed so have the head of the bed raised and have pillows under the painful shoulder and resting my arm on another pillow but it's not helping much if at all.

Thank you! I'd never heard of this, but I've had neck pain for nearly 2 years and like you I've seen everyone and tried everything - and spent a fortune - with absolutely no relief. I've now looked it up and symptoms match so I'm off to gp to demand steroid injections. This is what the Internet suggests if exercises, physio and hot/cold does not work.

I'm surprised steroids were not offered to you after the other treatments didn't work. I suggest you get assertive with your gp and get referred to an orthopaedic doctor if gp isn't willing to prescribe steroids. The alternative is buying steroid tablets online but probably not as affective.

Sorry you're going through it as well. Hopefully the steroid injection will bring you some relief from the pain.

I've been offered the steroid injection if I can get 48 hours rest but as a single carer it's virtually impossible. She said she'll do it if I can get 24 hours rest instead so I'm trying to get that arranged but won't be til after the new year now.

Sounds horrendous OP.

But you've been offered a solution. You need to make the injections more of a priority.

I appreciate you're caring but I'd draft in help asap so you can get some relief.

If only it was that easy. The longest I get to myself is 2 hours while a support worker is looking after my cared for so I can get the food shopping done.
