At the end of a not very enjoyable dinner party circa 1982 my then partner who was usually a very nice man made the unusual toast of lifting his glass and saying, ‘I’ve had a lovely evening, but this wasn’t it!’

Not everyone got it but we left soon after!

Yes it is! It was really unlike him to say something like that and we both found it very amusing. Not so sure our hosts did.
