Anywhere in the world?
Asia, Canada, Scandinavia, Japan?
hot, cold?
long haul or a short hop from the UK?

humour me and give me some ideas.
I have a few but keep flip flopping between them.
too much choice!
have a decent budget and lots of avois points that could be used.

never been on a cold holiday but I can’t ski. I don’t plan on learning at this late stage of my life.

I absolutely want to see wildlife in any form.

I am a late December baby and I have always wanted to celebrate my birthday in a cabin in the woods with a hot tub and lots of nice walks

My husband's birthday is January and we have done Bruges, Iceland, Krakow to name a few and I would 1000% recommend them all! Budget doesn't sound a massive issue so I would do Iceland!

My birthday is between Christmas and New Year. For my 50th I struggled to think of where to go. In the end we went for four days to Venice. We stayed in a lovely hotel right on the Grand Canal. I absolutely adored it! It is now one of my favourite places.
It wasn’t too busy but everything was open. The place felt so magical. The light was unreal over the Grand Canal. It was cold but not freezing.
An absolutely special holiday.
Highly recommend.

seeing wildlife is at the top of my list for this holiday.
next priority is good food.

Love the idea of Costa Rica but going west the jet lag is grim. I don’t like feeling exhausted by 6pm. Much prefer going east.

Vietnam Ho Chi Minh for a few days then fly to phu quoc island, stay in cassia cottage hotel- stunning, from there internal flights to Hoi An and Hanoi. A few days is fab in each place although I could easily have stayed a week in cassia.

I have a significant birthday in Jan - we are going to Iceland. A uni friend of mine had the same idea and is currently there for hers! My last significant birthday was spent in Bruges. I wanted long haul sun but couldn’t afford it as we have to be away over new year and it is astronomically expensive. With a birthday further into Jan I’d go to Mexico or the Caribbean I think.

January, prob Southern Hemisphere. I did a safari once. Expensive but the animals were fantastic. I went to South Africa. Far East or whale watching e.g. Baja but not sure of the migration. S.Africa had it all.

We going Canaries for mine in Feb. Vietnam sounds lovely.

Beebumble2 · 09/12/2022 20:16

My significant New Year January birthdays have been Las Vegas and Australia. Covid lockdown spoilt Singapore.

ihatethecold · 09/12/2022 21:51

Great ideas.
Vietnam sounds amazing. I’ve never been. Was there much wildlife?

Been to Mexico a couple of times.
South Africa and the wine route sounds good.

I was thinking about a few days in Singapore and then onto Malaysia for beaches and monkeys.

If jet lag is a problem for you definitely South Africa. Plus it has absolutely everything else you are asking for. I loved it.

Loved Vietnam / no wildlife.
SA is amazing too, lots of wildlife there.
BC great from wild life perspective
Galapagos?

Barbados. Plenty of human wildlife to observe on the beach in winter. Much of it elderly - it migrates from chilly colder climes to warm itself in the sun, and feed on rum.

FettleOfKish · 09/12/2022 22:48

If wildlife is the priority then I agree with the above suggestions. Costa Rica and deal with the jet lag, or South Africa.

I've been to both more than once. Costa Rica is my favourite place on earth.
