Pushchair help

Hospital2022 · 09/12/2022 17:04

What pushchair would be the best for a new born. The things that need to be considered are Comfort. Using on a bus at busy times, carrying up 4 flights of stairs at least 4 times a day.

Budget is around 300 although can stretch if really need to . But prefer for it to be as cheap as possible.

Not wanting a yo yo

Gosh you need something really light for 4 flights of stairs! So yes Yoyo or their competitors if you don’t want the Yoyo. With the stairs you may find a sling your best friend

Slings/carriers are ace . Its for my daughter/grandson though. She point blank refuses a Carrier

I can only really think of a Yo-yo. But really, nothing is going to work! Sounds a tough situation for them. Why’s she not keen on a sling?

4 flights of stairs 4 times a day - carrying the pushchair as well as the baby. I strongly second / third the idea that some kind of baby wearing is the right way to go. As a supplement to having a pushchair if not as a replacement. Perhaps look at a lot of different slings and carriers to try to find the one that feels right to her. For me I found ring slings the most flexible. She'll need to make two trips each time otherwise I think one for the pushchair and one for the baby.

An alternate way to go is something that can be folded and opened with one hand and carry the pushchair on a strap. Personally I don't know something that fits those criteria and is suitable for a newborn but I'm thinking something like the bugaboo butterfly or a nice mcclaren. bugaboo butterfly

Bugaboo butterfly or joolz aer

could she keep it in the boot of the car?

I don't know she's seems to thiibk she would feel suffocated. I have told her when I baby sit I'm using a sling n9 way am I taking a buggy on the bus. So never know I may be able to persuade her 😅

I’d say something with a removable bassinet that she can carry up separately.

SuburbanMummy123 · 09/12/2022 19:24

We lived on the first floor for the first 5 weeks with baby and did tend to separate the bassinet from the base of our Uppababy Cruz (Vista works the same way). So you carry baby up in the bassinet, but then you’d have to leave baby while you got the base. And neither part is light or easy to carry.

SuburbanMummy123 · 09/12/2022 19:26

We later got a Yoyo and it’s a million times easier to carry. I can carry the Yoyo plus a toddler up the station stairs without a worry, but carrying half of the Uppababy with someone helping on the other end was scary and hard work. (Sorry for multiple posts)

FlounderingFruitcake · 09/12/2022 19:28

Why not a YoYo? I had one when my DD was small and we lived in 3rd fl walk up. It was great.

Speedweed · 09/12/2022 19:44

I know someone who did similar - a bike lock is handy so she can lock the pushchair up whilst she takes the baby and baby bag upstairs, then come back for the pushchair.

Ultimately they chose to move because they had a baby who didn't sleep well, so they'd take the baby out for a walk, the baby would fall asleep and then be woken up when they had to get them upstairs, and they just found it too much.

AluckyEllie · 09/12/2022 19:48

Another vote for the yoyo. We had the bassinet rather than the newborn pack so the bassinet could be separated and carried by itself. It’s great on public transport, I use the bus a lot

mylittlepony13 · 09/12/2022 19:56

I had a similar situation and bought the Ickle Bubba 'globe' stroller. It's actually a travel buggy but it's so light and it folds down very neatly with a little strap you can put over your shoulder to carry it. I use it as my car buggy now but previously I had to take it up 3 sets of stairs to my flat and this stroller was perfect for me - not a luxury stroller by any means but it did its job for a good (cheaper!!) price.

I’d really look at these over the yo yo, they’re much easier folds and bigger seats than the yo yo

Omgwhatthehell · 09/12/2022 19:58

Mamas and Papas Airo is very similar to a yoyo. And a bit cheaper I think.

keepthesecrets · 09/12/2022 20:06

Look at a Zummi available at Smyths toy superstores. There is the zip that is very cheap, suitable from birth, lightweight and foldable with one hand. Maybe this and a carrier to use whichever is most suited to the outing would be a good compromise. There are other models too.

I don't know I would have thought a yo yo or very similar would work well . But she thinks they look uncomfortable for a new born . Even with the newborn part.

That’s utter nonsense based on nothing though. I don’t know who ‘she’ is - daughter, daughter in law ??? But the only thing that is going comfortably up several flights of stairs a day is a yoyo with the newborn pack (or similar knock off) or forgetting a pram altogether and using a sling. You can’t practically carry a separate bassinet plus a sling and FWIW I also own a big pram with a traditional bassinet that both my babies hated despite the fact they were always very happy strapped in to the yoyo. If ‘she’ is being that awkward then I’d strongly suggest you stay out of it. They’ll figure it out eventually.
