Please advise!

I don't know if you do ovens, but recently a switch went in our fuse box while the oven was on.

I switched it back on, but the oven now won't heat over 80 degrees.

The grill seems to work fine and gets to temp, but the fan oven and non fan oven won't heat to over 80.

Any advice? Plug fuse? Thermostat?

Last time this happened to my old oven it was the element - it cost about £100 to fix.

We have since bought a new oven as it went again.

It might help if you put up the manufacturer name, the model name and number. Say Whirlpool Lux ten thousand (made up)

Blueyismylife · 09/12/2022 11:56

Sounds like the heating element has failed and that tripped your fusebox

magicalorange · 09/12/2022 12:04

Oh god how do I figure out the model. I've got the manual.

If it's been switched off because of a power cut the clock won't be set, believe it or not I actually changed the element in an oven once myself (wasn't that difficult) only to find out that if I had reset the clock the oven would work

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 09/12/2022 12:30

Sounds like the heating element we got ours for around £25 and fit ourselves

whensmynexthol1day · 09/12/2022 12:33

Yep will be the element- exactly the same happened to us

iRun2eatCake · 09/12/2022 12:41

Your oven may have the model and serial number inside the door somewhere.

validnumber · 09/12/2022 12:55

Try ringing the manufacturer. Sometimes they are really helpful.
Also have you tried googling?

LIZS · 09/12/2022 13:02

There is often a sticker with model number etc on inside of door frame or side of door. The manual may tell you where to look.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 09/12/2022 13:05

Another vote for a heating element, we got an electrician in and he replaced it for £70.

magicalorange · 09/12/2022 13:07

Found the sticker in the oven door and went on a forum - looks like it's the fan element blown.

I tried the normal non-fan oven and that heats up fine.

But when switching to fan it won't heat.

Looks like a new element is £20 so that's not too bad.

If it was the RCD that tripped (not an MCB) then it is usually the element, which degrades with age.

Tripping at 80C is odd, though.

New elements mostly have a plug-in fitting (there may also be retaining screws) and are quite easy to change.
