Taken cocodamol for pain.. feel strange

I've had an absolutely terrible gallstone attack this evening, the worst I've ever had by FAR.

I was out at the time, so I took two paracetamol (all I had at the time) before DH rushed me back home, grabbed me a hot water bottle etc and put me to bed.

I had some Co-codamol in the cupboards (newly described for ovary pain) so I also took two of these, and a lansoprazole tablet to try and reduce the stomach acid.

Well fast forward to now and I feel awful. The gallstone pains have gone / subsided.. but I feel:

  • massively anxious
  • paranoid
  • hyper aware of my breathing
  • faster heartbeat
  • scared, but can't pinpoint why..
  • dizzy
  • very spaced out

I'm absolutely terrified. I tried to get up from my bed not long ago as I felt really spaced out and as though I needed some fresh air. I stood by the window and felt on the verge of a huge panic attack. My vision felt funny and I felt super aware of my body and breathing etc.

I am absolutely HATING the effects of what I assume to be the co-Codamol. Does anybody know how long it takes to come out of your system?

I keep drifting off to sleep but waking up with a pounding heart and feeling massively panicky.

Feeling much better now. It was an awful feeling feeling. Sense of impending doom and really really paranoid / anxious. Shaking all over, jelly arms and legs and pounding heart. Absolutely awful! Never again!

You shouldn’t take both together but two paracetamol and two co-codamol do not amount to a paracetamol overdose.

Two cocodomal and two paracetamol is an overdose, and can cause irreversal liver problems. It is the equivilant of 4 paracetamol and is dangerous!

When you speak to your GP I think you should ask if they recommend a medic-alert bracelet or at least something in your records about this reaction. I have a friend who has extremely bad reactions to opiates and she carries a card now. Always check when buying any over the counter meds. It is such a frightening experience.

Codeine is evil stuff

Does nothing to me weirdly
I was on dihydrocodeine 30mg, 4 x a day plus oramorph and diazepam. And still working FT as usual Blush

@onestepps what were the milligrams of the paracetamol taken?

agree taking 4 paracetamol at once isn’t a good thing but as a one off you'll be fine just don’t take any more

personally codeine without paracetamol works great for me. Co codamol makes me feel really ill with the symptoms you say

i do get reluctance for a prescription for pure codamol but it’s now down on my notes as a true reaction to it

As a one off event 2mg of paracetamol will not be toxic to an adult. Stop scaremongering.
