Oh and also im really not a sympathetic person I have tried to be so many times I just havnt got that trait

How delightful.

Grumbling, anonymously, about coughing kids is hardly bad parenting. Probably quite a good way of venting.

Might loop earplugs help?

Are they old enough to suck sugar free sweets?

Lichensclerosus · 08/12/2022 20:01

Thanks for the tips to the helpful posters ive just tried vicks on the bottom of their feet and socks and given some sugar free sweets to the oldest two.
Its been going on for 2 weeks now and its doing my absolute nut in. Weve had cough medicines, nose/throat sprays, calpol, vapour plug ins and its still constant. Every night at least one of them is making their self sick with constantly coughing but yet when there occupied with something ie a games console or the telly they miraculously stop!
I've had enough ive literally got the youngest who is 5 coughing in my face and there's only so many times I can politely say cover your mouth when you cough please!!

Yep slate me all your like to those with your harsh unhelpful comments. Ive quite frankly am at my wits end right now

I completely understand. I can't bear the sound, it is the worst in the world. I silently pray for it to be over every time.

Caterina99 · 08/12/2022 20:04

I’m with you OP. I KNOW they can’t help it, but it’s still just so annoying!

We just got over a few weeks of what felt like endless coughing in this house and I was enjoying the peace and now my DD just coughed a few times tonight. Praying it doesn’t develop into anything more substantial

EmmaAgain22 · 08/12/2022 20:18

OP "Yep slate me all your like to those with your harsh unhelpful comments. Ive quite frankly am at my wits end right now"

but you are not a sympathetic person, so what did you want here?

I can't abide the sound of children doing anything much. Hence I didn't have any.

Coughs are worse at night. This makes it sound like you think they are putting it on.

ThatshallotBaby · 08/12/2022 20:24

I’m with you @Lichensclerosus
I think it’s also the feeling of helplessness. Just bloody get well for goddsake.
Ds has been so ill, he’s coughing now. Cough cough cough cough cough.

Coughs are often worse at night because of lying down. It might be worth considering raising the head end of their beds or using a wedge shaped pillow or a stack of pillows (whether pillows are appropriate depends on how old the children are).

I currently have a cough and it drives me nuts. I definitely can't lie down or I would be coughing all night, so I sleep partially sitting up, propped up on several pillows.

Hopemax · 08/12/2022 20:50

I sympathise OP, my DC constantly coughing drives me up the wall too. It makes me feel really irritated. I wear one bluetooth earbud to try tune some of the sound out and calm me. Play music or a podcast I'm not too bothered about so I don't need to concentrate but it gives me something to focus on which makes me less irrationally cross.

OakTreex · 10/12/2022 16:28

Got this now with my toddler. Every minute throughout the night. I've had less than 2 hours' sleep. As much as obviously I feel for them being poorly if you're neurodiverse or easily overstimulated in general by unpredictable noise it's really tough and I do struggle although I try hard not to show how difficult I find it at times! You and your DC have my full sympathy, hope they get better soon.

Shesasuperfreak · 24/12/2022 20:55

I had to Google to find this thread because I am feeling so snappy and edgy because of the coughing.

I don't know why but it is pissing me off.

I feel you OP and I have 3 children. I havent got used to it at all.

AuntieMarys · 24/12/2022 21:05

I'm sick of my own fucking cough

MissMaple82 · 24/12/2022 21:25

This year my child had the worse cough, none stop coughing. I've hasld 2 children and I've never known a cough like it. I even tested for covid but it was negative. I definitely think theres some insane coughing virus going around. I too was loosing the will with it, one night they were coughing till 2am, I had to keep them off school just because of lack of sleep alone

MissMaple82 · 24/12/2022 21:26

Oh and I've had it too but my child had it worse... its horrid amd annoying as fuck for everyone
