Would you watch a film rated 15/18 while your 6 and 3 year old were in the room playing?

Would you put a film rated 15 or 18 on in the room while your young children were in there?

In this case, 6 year old DD and 3 year old DS, playing with toys and each other but obviously can hear and see the tv

Films weren't scary films but obviously completely inappropriate, and bad language etc.

My DP says I'm being ridiculous but this is just not acceptable in my view.

No, I wouldn't.

Didicat · 08/12/2022 11:29

Under 1s yes, over 12s possibly child dependent

2-12 definitely not

getoutof · 08/12/2022 11:31

Under 2 yes but not older as they'll be bound to pick up on a swear world or an unsuitable scene.

Not an 18 certainly. Depends what the 15 is.

Ellie1015 · 08/12/2022 11:31

No I wouldn't. As pp said if a baby or over 12 then possibly but not at the ages you mention.

Dacadactyl · 08/12/2022 11:33

No, not a chance. I think that is absolutely poor parenting.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/12/2022 11:33

No.

AuntieMarys · 08/12/2022 11:34

Definitely not

TurquoiseDress · 08/12/2022 11:34

No I definitely wouldn't do that

Coffeaddict · 08/12/2022 11:35

As others said baby fine but not an older child that age

peachescariad · 08/12/2022 11:35

Your DP is a dick

SirVixofVixHall · 08/12/2022 11:35

No.

mondaytosunday · 08/12/2022 11:36

No.

carefulcalculator · 08/12/2022 11:37

No, your DP is a dickhead.

Depending on the content of the 18 film doing that can be classed as a safeguarding concern.

Mentalpiece · 08/12/2022 11:38

Yes.

TruestRepairman · 08/12/2022 12:09

No, of course not. They absorb loads at those ages.

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2022 12:11

Absolutely not

WednesdayFridayAddams · 08/12/2022 12:15

No.
Your DP is an idiot who thinks only of himself.

Is he their dad? not that it matters, but curious if he feels less concerned about the impact on them because he isn’t their DF.

deeperthanallroses · 08/12/2022 12:22

absolutely not. I have renovation and cooking shows to watch while I fold washing in the daytime, my drama shows only go on after dc bedtime

BeyondTheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 08/12/2022 12:35

18 absolutely not. A 15 that's rated purely for language would depend on the film. I can't think of an actual example of one that's okay, but there might be one I can't think of?

Magicpaintbrush · 08/12/2022 12:44

Absolutely no way would I allow this. Your DH must be a selfish prick to think this is okay. 18 rated movies in front of a 6 year old?? At a push the 3 year old might be oblivious, but I still wouldn't do it. He's being totally unreasonable, irresponsible and self centred. Their little minds are like sponges, developing all the time, and exposure to stuff like that could be actually damaging for them - violence, gore, sex, swearing, it's not okay to expose them to that. 18 rated movies are usually have at least one scene of extreme violence or gore, or abuse, something like that. I would read the fucking riot act to him about this. Put your foot down.

HarvestThyme · 08/12/2022 12:45

Nope.

Kids pick up on everything.

ArnoldBee · 08/12/2022 12:47

Depends on the film and the content. Some older films and in fact some very boring films can have a high age rating.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 08/12/2022 12:49

No way.

Atmywitsend29 · 08/12/2022 12:50

Depends on the context of the film and why it's rated a 15/18.
