Tandem pushchair where toddler isn’t squashed

After recommendations please. Will need double pushchair for baby and 2 and a half year old. Can’t be side by side as won’t go through door. There’s no way my toddler will get into one that’s designed where she’s got the other seat looming over her if you see what I mean. She’ll wNt to be able to see out/forwards. Any recommendations please?

Not a personal recommendation but I've been researching for me and going for the Vista V2

That looks good for when they can both sit up but toddler seat maybe seems a bit squashed with bassinet on top? Mind you going by my first child second will probably refuse to go in pram anyway!

If your toddler will be 2.5 do you really need a double buggy? We had a smaller gap than that and got away with just a single - baby went in the sling while the toddler went in the buggy for the first 9m and then we got a buggy board for the toddler and put the baby in the pram. Made life much easier

I’ve wondered the same. We live near a main road though so am quite anxious about bigger one walking from the house so young, plus she only naps in the pushchair. Also currently have a bad back so am hoping the baby will go in pushchair. My toddler refused pushchair for ages and it got really hard work lugging her round in a sling for all her naps til she was about 10 months. 😬May well be another pointless parenting purchase though!

I used the mountain buggy duet (it's a side by side) until my oldest was 4. I never had problems going though doors as they are designed to be no wider than a wheelchair. It also worked well on buses and could turn on the spot.

Did you find it a good size for the 4 year old still? My toddler naps in pushchair and is a bit of a sprawler!

I had the baby jogger city select when I was in your position and it was amazing. No side by side buggies fitted in our back gate and this one gave both of them a decent amount of room.

Caspianberg · 09/12/2022 14:56

I think the mountain duet is worth a look. There’s lots around on marketplace too as popular so you could look
secondhand if you think you will mainly use the next 6+ months. It comes with option of adding side bag in single mode which might be handy on summer days out.

My Ds is 2.5 years. Whilst we do use toddler sling or he walks a lot, I would still want a pram for him this winter/ next 6 months for some occasions. Handy when freezing cold and you just need to get to doctor, supermarket or something. Mine has been ill on and off recently and a walk in pram he will sometimes entertain whilst under the weather, but walking gives up after 10 mins.

I had a friend who had twins and she was really for side by side. She said all of her twin mums found the tandem really hard to push.
Can you get to a back door? I used to leave mine asleep in the garden.

Actually, with a 2.5 year old are you better to put the toddler in the buggy and the baby in a sling? You may not have long left of naps. Or you might.

SheWoreYellow · 09/12/2022 14:59

I should add, we had the baby jogger city mini and it lived in the car boot.

We were given a double buggy when we had a 2.5yr age gap and honestly I didn't use it once.

We used a buggy board on the back of our existing buggy. Once or twice I'd put the baby in the sling and the toddler in the pram (genuinely about 5 occasions, mostly when at airports) and once aged 3 she climbed into the underwear basked of the pram (Bugaboo bee) and fell asleep there all squished up. Pretty unbelievable but true.

It going to be hard with a toddler that only sleeps in the pram and a newborn, how will you get any time to yourself or to get things done? Best of luck, I hope you find a solution which works.

I have a Phil and Ted E something (ancient one) and my 4yo still uses it. We also live on a main road and I'm a bit anxious about road safety.

4yo loves to stuff himself into the underneath seat!

Another vote for Mountain Buggy Duet. It fitted through every door and went easily on all buses. DC1 was 22 months when DC2 was born but we used it very comfortably for over a year. We were out walking a lot and DC1 still napped up to 2 hours so used it loads.

It was years ago but i had a side by side and it did fit through doorways , not sure if they still do

I think the OP has measured up - mine used to fit through shop doorways but not my own house.

SheWoreYellow · 10/12/2022 07:38

Should add, the one above clearly would fit, so that’s good.

PingPongMerrilyWithPie · 10/12/2022 15:02

I had to get a side by side because the other sort were all too long for my boot. I just lived with not being able to fit it through our front door. Sometimes we ended up "stranded" outside a bit but as long as you have plenty of layers for you all, and somewhere you can sit outside with them (car or garden chair) it's not a deal-breaker IMO. We kept the single inside and would occasionally transfer one sleeper inside to that and rock them back to sleep. There is a bit of juggling whether you have 2 napping or one napping and the other awake. You just muddle through.
