We have a 3 nights in London planed at start of January. First time the kids have been. So far have booked to go to the natural history museum to see the Dinos & found a bus route to see the Christmas lights after on first day, tickets for & Juliet second night and a morning at the science museum on third day likely followed by a look at Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and a walk along the river if it’s not too cold and miserable.
On the last day thinking we might go to the transport museum in Covent Garden or the British museum so it’s easy to get to kings cross. Also considering booking the sky garden if we can get tickets.
People who have been recently what else would you recommend? Did you find anywhere good for letting kids run off a bit of steam and if you’ve been to the science museum did you pay to go into the wonderlab or just look round the free bits? They’ve been to Amsterdam, Berlin, Edinburgh and Paris with us but that was all pre lockdown. They love the local science museum, railway museum in york, anything to do with animals are both massive fans of Lego and like arts/crafts.

@ACynicalDad is the Jurassic world exhibition worth it? It seems expensive for 45minutes (stated on website) but my 4yo DS would probably love it.

Also, what is Nemo please? DS would love to go back to London but we need a reason to go

Love the sound of the postal museum. The play area also sounds fun and they will soon be too old for things like that

If it's a nice day postal museum is 5 min walk from Coram fields, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, it's a big playground but if they need a run around after lots of museums it's handy.

Nemo is the science museum in Amsterdam. Its a fab city with kids. Lovely parks, interesting zoo, the canals to explore & there are so many little play parks tucked in all the residential areas. Also has a fab outdoor pool on other side of the IJ from central station. There are some air bnb places you can rent in that part of town that are very affordable and family friendly

The more I read the more I’m tempted to dump the science museum. Greenwich or the tower might be better options. Thanks to everyone for loads of fab ideas

lots of good suggestions but some a bit cold - Tower is excellent but half of it is fairly exposed (walking the walls is fun) - though lots of smaller inside museums within. Zoo too cold for me in Jan. Agree Greenwich is a great day out inc boat there, river views and Maritime Museum (free and good interest for both kids and adults).
Science museum and wonderlab are great!, we regularly spend 2-3 hours in wonderlab with my 8 year old. Early slots and lunchtime slots are quieter. Shows and demos too. The (free) new medicine gallery and maths galleries are quiet and have plenty of hands on stuff. Free advance timed tickets essential for all the S Ken museums.
King’s Cross /granary square light up fountains are magical after dark if you are in the area.
Sky garden is a bit underwhelming. Tate Modern/St Paul’s is a nice duo and walking down the (chilly) southbank to book market under Waterloo bridge etc. Wahaca Southbank is fun, in shipping containers.
