0.4 centile height

DD has dropped to th 0.4 centile for height (she's under 2 and only grown 3cm in 6 months)

Anyone else have such a tiny kid- and did it turn out to be just genetic or something else affecting growth?

Me and her dad are small so she was never gonna be a giant but she barely grows

What centile was she following before this?
How is she in general? Does she eat well and have energy?

My eldest son was under the 0.4th centile for weight and height from not long after birth. When he was a toddler the paediatrician said he was in line to be the same height as my husband who is only 5 foot 4. He is now 21 and is indeed 5 foot 4 and is still slim. He has an active job, is strong and healthy. It us normal for him. That doesn't mean that will be the case for all small children of course but there was nothing wrong with him, it is just his genetics.

Last time she was checked (6 months ago) she was in the 2nd centile, and she wasn't measured before that since birth (and I think that was wrong because they said she was 75th!)

She's a happy wee thing, never sick but eats very little.

@Countrygirl38 that's interesting thanks, did they keep an eye on him as he grew or check anything else ?

I know someone whose child was small, they had growth hormone injections for a few years. To be honest he is still short but presumably have been shorter if they hadn't gone for the injections.

DS is now late 20s , so I can't remember the exact centiles but he was very small when he was 12 months and was weighed and measured every 3 months for a year (a 0-3 months swimming costume hung off him). At 2 his predicted height was 5'2". He is 5'11" and wears 36 slim fit jackets and 30" trousers.
It's worth keeping an eye on though

Both of my children were under the 0.4 the centile and both are (at 19 and 21) are healthy young adults. They have always thankfully been healthy and full of energy. They are both still slim and my 21 year old son is 5'4 like my husband. So it's just their genetics.

My son was born beneath the 0.4th centile for weight and height and remained there throughout his entire childhood. He is now a very healthy 21 year old. It is genetics in his case.

Hey @Exactfare how is your son? Was it a normal variation ? Or something else was causing the slow growth?

Whiskers4 · 01/04/2024 20:19

My DD floated on and slightly about this centile throughout childhood - she's now around 5ft at 22 years. She's happy, healthy, travelled a lot, has a degree, job and lovely boyfriend who adores her - her height hasn't stopped her.

We're 5ft3ins and 5ft6ins. My DM, her siblings and parents were petite, so guess she inherited from them, although I was induced three weeks early so that might have an impact.

@hopeful02 we don't know yet, paeds review her every 6 months and she's now tracking along the 0.4 centile (which they are happy with)

Her consultant says he'll do a referral to endocrinology if she hasn't gone up a centile by 4

Thanks @Exactfare did they do any blood test or x rays when you were referred the 1st time?

You have posted the same information 3 times.

Hi Ladies, just following up on this thread. How are your lil ones doing?

Exactfare · 07/11/2024 20:32

She's still tiny! She has a follow up booked for January, they haven't done x-rays or anything

I took her to the GP a while ago as she was having real issues with fatigue and lack of stamina, he ordered bloods which where all normal and did another referral to the hospital (which I think has gone missing) but she's not quite as bad as she was so I haven't chased it up yet

Hello ive looking all over the internet looking for information my first son who is now 4 was also on the 0.4th and was referred to endocrine and has been at least 12 times over the past 2 years, he had feeding specialist from a baby because of colic and they couldnt work outtt what was happening so just dropped us, the health visitor just dissapeared never got a 1 year check up from them and got sent to endocrine, and they have constantly told me to come back after a 5 minute appointment for the last 2 years, we all had a genetic blood tests 2 years ago and i got a call out of the blue 3 days ago saying my son has silver russell syndrome, and he should of been on hormone from 2 years old, physically he is in proportion and symmetrical and absolutely gorgeous he is just small in height, but could develop other conditions if not given hormone, i would follow up with your child and ask for a gentic test , mostly likely everything is conpletely fine but they dont do enough as we have been completely failed, i always thought nah hes justs short like me and my dad and alot of some sides of our family are, i was never worried about height and still am not, just what this means for him and explaining, sorry mums i needed to let this out somewhere.
