what do your school aged kids do after school?

My oldest is now at school and goes to after school club. Not sure what I pictured but it just feels like such a repetitive juggle during the week. One of us picks up DC from the after school club at 5pm, quick homework, a bit of play, bath, 15mins cartoons, dinner and bedtime routine, lights out at 7.30. Ok thats only four days a week but just seems really humdrum and a bit dull. Is everyone else's the same?

He’s 8 and since he started school at 4 it’s been

• he plays alone for a while when he comes in
• then we play together- train sets or imaginary play or board game
• then we eat
• then we play some more
• then read together at bedtime

We don’t bother with homework in the week (except reading), we leave it to Saturday
