gift to send to hospital

A friend is going into hospital next week for a hysterectomy. It is a very close and dear friend but I don't live near her. I'd like to send her something either to hospital or to her home when she leaves hosp, but not the usual chocs/flowers, something more special. Any ideas and suggestions really welcome. I could make up a 'care bundle', but I don't even know where to start. Budget probably around £50.. Thank you :)

I’d avoid sending anything to the hospital. It has to arrive in the mail room and can then, ime, take a couple of days to get to the wards. She may be home by the time it gets to the ward!

Does she live alone? If so, some sort of meal delivery would be nice.
Nice cosy wrap? Sitting on the sofa recovering could mean she feels colder.
Reflexology session?

Depends what she is in to.

If it's a care bundle, I'd suggest hand cream, lip balm, chocolate, fluffy socks, maybe hot water bottle, book etc. For other ideas, maybe a tv or magazine subscription or food vouchers i.e. Just Eat. I think the hardest thing when you come out of hospital is making food so help with that could be a good idea. I'm sure your friend will appreciate the thought whatever you do.

For a hysterectomy she's going to be basically immobile and unable to lift anything for a while. I'd be gifts on that - a travel mug, a cosy blanket, a few good books, etc.

Heated throw for when she is at home

Thank you - I hadn't thought about the delivery to her in the hospital, and I guess add the Royal Mail strikes on top of that. She has 3 teenage daughters who are all keen cooks, so am glad she's looked after in that way. A heated blanket is a great idea and I know she's been after one for a while now you mention it. am going to get her that! Thank you :)
