If you usually go on a work Christmas party - are you still going this year?

As the title says.

I am usually all up for the social of the year with work. WFH and feeling a bit burnt out has left me feeling like I just don't want to go this year and already planning an early escape.

I realise this is the reality for a lot of people most years, but I'm asking about the people that actually tend to be up for and enjoy these events. Are you still up for it this year or am I in company of others that feel they've ran out of steam?

Yea I'm going to the big one and a lunch with our team. Big one is paid for but I've agreed to take brownies to the cinema the next morning (I'm an owl) so I'll be not drinking and not staying out late. The other one is in work time but we pay.

WatchingSwimming · 06/12/2022 17:37

Ours is a team lunch and paid for by the bosses so I'm going. I wfh so don't see my colleagues face to face often, it'll be nice. I never feel like going out but always enjoy it once it happens

I'm going to our work Christmas dinner. It's always really lovely. Partners are invited too. And it is free.

Are people really still worried about Covid?

I'm not sure people's reluctance to go would just be around Covid. Maybe around cost of living, or for some people WFH have got out of the habit of socialising - and if you are worried about picking up illnesses there are many more viruses than just Covid lurking around this year.

moonlight1705 · 08/12/2022 10:09

We don't get many benefits in my job but a free Christmas lunch is one. I organised it along with doing an escape room first but there are only 12 of us in the entire company. It's set for an office day and everyone is up for a good Christmas day out.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/12/2022 10:23

I'm a bit aghast at how many have to pay for themselves! Even when I had a company of 4 people I paid for everyone

OnlyTheBravest · 08/12/2022 11:36

Ours was cancelled due to train strikes. Was looking forward to it and catching up with WFH colleagues. Hoping to reschedule in New Year.

Not in the public sector !!!

I'm public sectors and ours is all paid for. It's not one homogenous culture!

shinynewapple22 · 08/12/2022 16:15

What public service do you work in @pigonalipstick. That doesn't seem right to me.

pigonalipstick · 08/12/2022 16:16

I'm in policy

reluctantbrit · 08/12/2022 17:41

Ours is today, fully funded by the company and attendance is around 80%.

I was supposed to be there but DD has a difficult time mentally and we are all drained and the last thing I want is socialising with people who don't know about it.

Very much so. One colleague has promised to do a special German dance for us, and another is bringing her newish boyfriend (who we have all heard about in forensic detail) to be assessed by the team. Other partners will not be attending - I'm not sure how she's going to explain that to him. Two directors who "can't go" have promised to each buy a round of Christmas themed cocktails in absentia, and this will all be taking place on a Friday afternoon. I don't even work Fridays and I will still go.
