She is 23.
I'm thinking £70 for birthday and £70 Christmas
So £140 altogether
Reasonable ?

My daughter has her birthday on Christmas Day, I give her £300. Her sister gets £150 at Christmas and £150 on her birthday so it’s only fair

No-one can really answer this
Can you afford it?
Some people will think this is to much, others will think its not enough
Only you know your budget

Threadkiller?!
But I agree.
For some people, expensive presents are for kids and at 23 you’re on to token gifts.

We get more at Birthdays and less at Christmas when siblings, spouses and grandkids are all getting presents together.

TrentCrimm · 05/12/2022 23:47

Are you asking if it's reasonable to give an equal amount for birthday and Xmas?

If so, yes- I'd say reasonable.

If it's about the actual amounts, how the heck would we know what you can afford?!

Money for Christmas? Do we do that when they get older? (Actual question, eldest is only 14!)

I think so! We are in our 40s and still get Christmas money! Could be £40, could be £200.. I don't expect it but I appreciate it!

I'm 26 and I usually get around £50 from my parents and a few gifts for Christmas

ifonly4 · 06/12/2022 14:47

Whatever you feel you'd like to do and can afford. Doesn't matter her birthday and Xmas day are two days in a row.

NoelNoNoel · 06/12/2022 14:50

I usually spend £100 on birthdays and £160 plus stockings for Christmas for my young adult DC ages from 22 and up.

I give more for Birthday than Christmas as Birthday is their day.

I give my 23yr old DS £70 plus something small to unwrap. He works full time and he and his partner have their own home and are quite comfortable whereas I'm living off ESA. He is always grateful.

Ivyblu · 06/12/2022 15:08

It depends what you can afford? What sort of relationship do you have and if you have other kids?
