Mine is Atmosphere by Joy Division.

I'm going to make a playlist out of the answers I get. Hope no one minds that. ❤

Bloody good choice OP. I was at a festival where Hooky and Rowetta performed that song...there was not a dry eye around and you could hear a pin drop. Proper goosebumps.

Anyway...mine at the moment is Walkaway - Cast.

A few...
A Different Corner-George Michael
Unfinished Sympathy-Massive Attack
Hallulejah-Jeff Buckley
Nothing Compares 2 U-Sinead O'Connor

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2022 09:50

At Last by Etta James
Come Dancing by The Kinks
Golden Brown by The Stranglers (the harpsichord bit makes me feel whirly)
Happy Together by The Turtles

Most of them are because they remind me of things more than the intrinsic beauty of the song, but Etta James is glorious even without memories.

knackeredcat · 06/12/2022 09:54

So many have already been mentioned here, definite YY to Joy Division and Depeche Mode choices in particular.

Anything from Faith (The Cure), but in particular All Cats Are Grey and The Funeral Party. Makes me think of the quiet and reserved grief I kept to myself most of the time after Mum died.

I've more than one, sorry Grin

Love Will Tear Us Apart (Again), Joy Division. The resignation in his voice when he sings 'again' makes me shiver every time.
The Ship Song, Nick Cave. The sheer vastness, of both the images and the sentiment. Takes my breath away, physically.
Ain't Nobody, Chaka Khan. Celestial in its joyousness.
Good Year for the Roses, Elvis Costello. Desolate.
Unfinished Sympathy, Massive Attack. Still sounds surprising, every time, after all this time.
Under Pressure, Bowie and Queen. Celebratory but also melancholy. I just went to see Aftersun and the way it's used there... makes me blub thinking about it!
Rainy Night in Soho, the Pogues. Filthily, authentically, wildly romantic.
To You I Bestow, Mundy (from Romeo + Juliet). Also wildly romantic.

I must stop now! Thanks OP, and everyone. I'm also off to make a playlist. This thread is wonderful.

You've just given me a big dose of 90s nostalgia there. It's been years since I heard that. I went listen on Spotify but only the original is on there. The Sexual Healing remix really changes that song for the better. (It's on YouTube fyi)
