The question of 'tipping' comes up regularly on MN

In essence, there is no requirement, or expectation to tip anywhere if you are in the UK. Elsewhere in the world things work differently.

Of course, there is no reason why you couldn't, or shouldn't, if you wanted to.

But as your question hints at..... where do you stop ? How do you decide which people you tip, and which you don't? Bin men, for example on on a LOT more than minimum wage. Why would you choose them to tip unless you tip everyone you encounter that might be on a lower wage than you are?

I tip the bin men, the postie and the milkman. It’s hard to tip the Evri guy when he’s lobbing parcels over the wall.

Bin men are not on a lot more than min wage where I am. Hence all the binmen strikes.

If I manage to catch my regular posties (we have 2 for the estate and they go round together) then I'll tip them because they're lovely and go above and beyond and are part of the community as in they return lost dogs, chat to people and have even brought my bin in for me before now!
But as I never know if it's them or someone else I wouldn't leave something out, rather give them something in person.

The bin men I won't be because it's hit and miss if my bin actually gets emptied at all, 8 weeks was the longest (4 collections) and no matter where I put it it didn't get emptied!

I tipped my hairdresser but no more than normal.

I do tip, though not a lot because I can't afford to, but that's one of the reasons I do, because I'm in a job that's low paid but supplemented by tips, my tips will probably be paid out on tipping other people 🤣

I might tip the postie if I recognise him. Couriers are different each time and hate Evri with a passion.
Unsure about the binmen. I'm wary of taping an envelope to the bins (recycling and rubbish are different teams arrive about two hours apart) as loads of people will be walking by and bins are on the pavement.
