Smart meter weekly budget - confused

So I had a bit of a panic yesterday as my new smart meter ( installed 2nd week of November) said “ You have exceeded your weekly budget” with a lightning symbol showing off the scale in red.
However it then said I had spent £18.50 for the week.

Really confusefd as I haven’t set a budget and thought maybe EDF had. But then they are currently charging me £150 a month, which is up from pre energetic crisis of £80 a month.

So my question is a) why is my usage showing at less than £20 a week when £80 a month was right before the crisis.
How much does one adult in a 2 bed house pay if you’re on pre payment meter ?

We've had a smart meter a few months and ours also came with a ludicrously low 'budget'. You can increase it, which stops the annoying flashing if nothing else.

After all, if your DD needs to be £150 pm to cover your annual average usage, you're unlikely to be able to reduce it to below the equivalent of £18.50 pw.

I ignore it.

i also ignore the “supply disconnected” message. Been on my meter since day one

Mine didn't come preloaded with a budget and it just keeps telling me there is no budget set which I ignore.
It also keeps sending me messages, which it won't actually let me read but I have to delete them without reading otherwise it won't show me the cost again, which is very annoying.

Yes! Mine keeps sending messages too which don’t seem to say anything.

My confusion is also how little energy I’m using when previously £80 a month was my usage based on my meter readings. DS has gone to Uni so it will go up when he’s back. But then the cost of energy has more than doubled. How can it be that low ( if it is low)

So if I’m using £20 a week which I would say is good or average what happens to the £150 a month I pay? How long will EDF keep me on my current direct debit. Is the charge on the meter accurate or do they whack something else on the bill?

Communication with your IHD (In Home Device) can be flaky, making them unreliable. So best to check your meter reading from your meters if you're concerned about the amount of energy you are using.
The default budget set in the IHD may not suit you, some IHDs learn and some allow you to enter your own budget. So best to leave it a while and see what happens.
