Cheap solo break ideas for January

I'm looking at going away for a cosy, quiet week on my own in January. I live in London and I'm absolutely frazzled by the noise, stress and pollution (I can't move unfortunately) and just need a break to sleep, decompress, and do a bit of walking and reading.

Any suggestions for UK locations and slightly affordable accommodation? Less than £100pn if that's even feasible. Would prefer self catered.

Rye is very nice - lovely coastline - Hastings and Dungeness nearby

I'd get the train up towards the lakes and get a chalet.

Hi Stickystitch, another London mum here and I can sympathize. An alternative suggestion for you is the East Yorkshire Coast. Am a bit biased as I run a small holiday let with my partner in a place called Bridlington. But definitely recommend the area & surrounding areas to get away & recharge. If interested, I could share the details.

Southwold in Suffolk is very quiet & calm. It would be lovely for walks on the beach and there are coffee shops & restaurants for eating out. It's the total opposite to London.

Brighton is obviously not what you want at all but there are lots of nice little villages roundabout. Firle and Alfriston both lovely. Also Rottingdean, along the coast from Brighton.

Depending on how luxurious you want it, have a look at youth hostels. If you don't mind it being a bit basic.

If you don’t mind getting a flight, OP, can I recommend the north coast of Northern Ireland? Lots of holiday lets in Portrush and Portstewart, long beaches for walks to blow the cobwebs away and plenty of cosy coffee shops to get lost in a book. Have a restful break, wherever you choose

It's going to be awfully chilly anywhere in the UK in Jan and possibility of snow.

Okay if you want to stay in in front of a log fire but otherwise you may want to seek warmer climbs otherwise you might feel a bit cooped up unless you're very hardy.

Lundy island out in the Bristol Channel. Amazing place. You can go on a boat trip to sea some seals or puffins if you're lucky. You can stay somewhere incredibly basic no wifi just a fire and your books. Blissful.

Griffon Forest near York might work for you. Lovely, cosy lodges and plenty of forest walks. The coast isn't too far away if you have a car.

I love taking short breaks this time of year. I generally go for Hoseasons Autograph range and find it easy to get a Mon-Fri break in a luxury lodge with hot tub for less than a few hundred.
The Lakes, Snowdonia, lovely coastal walks on deserted beaches. The only area that Hoseasons don't have great cover in is Northumberland, which is a shame.
