Did your feet get bigger in pregnancy?

Did they go back to pre-pregnancy size? How long did it take?

I’m nearly eight weeks postnatal and all of my swelling has gone but my feet are so bloody wide. All of my old shoes (except crocs 😬) are quite tight round the all of my foot. Not keen on buying all new shoes straight away if they’ll go back at some point. Didn’t have this with first baby at all!

Hi there,
It doesn’t seem likely that you have this from your post as foot growth during pregnancy can be completely normal but for anyone else reading this.
I want to mention an illness called acromegaly. It is caused by excessive growth hormone produced in the pituitary gland.
Acromegaly can cause a wide range of symptoms, which tend to develop very slowly over time.
Early symptoms include:

  • swollen hands and feet – you may notice a change in your ring or shoe size
  • tiredness and difficulty sleeping, and sometimes sleep apnea.
  • gradual changes in your facial features, such as your brow, lower jaw and nose getting larger, or your teeth becoming more widely spaced
  • numbness and weakness in your hands, caused by a compressed nerve.
  • periods becoming irregular
  • fatigue
  • aching joints
If you have these symptoms you want to see an endocrinologist and have your IGF1 levels checked. It’s probably not this. Acromegaly is a rare disease. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. It’s worth checking if you have any concerns. The earlier it is caught the more likely it is to be curable!

My right foot did, my left didn’t.

Went from size 51/2 to 61/2 first pregnancy and recently bought some new winter trainers and finally, after 17 years, the 6 1/2 was too big and am now down to a 6.

So 17 years to go back down half a size here!

Although it might just be sizing between different brands who knows will have to see when I get the next pair of footwear! (but I am sure not as bought this make previously at 6 1/2)
