Returning a faulty item to primark ..no receipt?

I bought a suitcase in September from primark.
Used it once and it's broken.
The handle which adjusts up and down won't move and is stuck which means I can't use it.
I have no receipt
Can I return ?it was £50 so a lot of money to waste

Did you use a card, bank statement is usually fine as proof of purchase.

I can't believe a suitcase from primark was £50. I bought a Carlton one for that much 20 years ago and it's only just starting to break. Anyway you shouldn't need proof of purchase for faulty items.

I've had a similar problem when a pair of Clarks boots split. They made a fuss about refunding them but I got my bank statement to prove purchase then brought up 'consumer rights' which I believe protect you for 3 months at least after purchase.

Primark are very fussy they don’t even let you exchange without a receipt

If something is faulty you don't need a receipt. The challenge will be that you can't prove it's not user error that has caused the problem (yanking the handle too hard etc). I wouldn't fancy your chances.

The handle on my case got stuck on my last holiday- I unzipped the lining and accessed the mechanism, and it was easy to see where it was stuck. It was very easy to fix from there. Took me just a few seconds. Have you looked at the workings to see how it's stuck?

When they brought in the rules for having a receipt they wouldn’t even exchange me a £4 pair of toddler shoes with a broken clasp!

If it’s a faulty item you won’t need a receipt, they might accept your bank statement. They might not accept that, so you may need to open a chargeback with your bank. I think your biggest hurdle is the sales - if the suitcase has gone down in price since purchase, they only have to offer you the most recent selling price as a refund as there’s no receipt to confirm how much you paid.

If you paid with cash and lost the receipt, you have no evidence you purchased the suitcase. I agree that you should just try and fix it. Ultimately it seems like you can still use it? You just can’t change the height of the pull handle. But you can use the static handle to pull it, and you can still zip things inside. If you drive, it’s not a noticeable fault.

The handle is stuck pulled up
So no use if going abroad on planes etc which is why I bought it initially

Primark are really fussy.

My husband paid for something on Apple Pay. I had the receipt. I had the card for the account he used. They could see the 4 digits on my card and on the screenshot of the Apple pay receipt.

They said no.

They made him go out of his way to do it with his phone to refund via Apple Pay.

Arse holes.

But have you opened the lining to look at the mechanism? I bet it's just got a bit stuck on the little catches that keep it open.
