Hello, can someone suggest a nice but affordable place that serves afternoon tea in Central London? Oxford street, Piccadilly, Covent Garden, Victoria?
Thank you

Op the ivy cream tea is in beautiful setting and lovely fresh scones very affordable price

I’ve just put up a Time Out link but not sure it’s all that helpful - the cheapest is £44.

I’ve been to the Wolseley (which was lovely but more than you want to pay).

Actually this might be useful. I put in the maximum price of £30 and a few came up. Probably worth checking though, the price looks a bit too cheap for a few of them (so there will be extras).

Maison Bertaux

Fortnum and Mason

Fortnums is about £75 so above what OP wants.

Has anybody been to Dalloway Terrace?

Yes, but only for drinks. It's quite pricey for afternoon tea. Lovely for a drink and there was a good DJ - been on a couple of Friday nights.

@EmmaAgain22 what's it like inside?

Brown's restaurant?

it's quite big, busy and I find it noisy but I find everywhere noisy. It's good though, bit of a London classic.

they used to do a great pudding cocktail - three layers of choc liqueur - milk, dark, white.

this thread is making me nostalgic for my old life!

ChristmasJoysuckers · 04/12/2022 20:02

Thanks,is it like nice inside though? Or more like a pub?

EmmaAgain22 · 04/12/2022 20:06

It's definitely like a restaurant rather than a pub.. haven't been since Feb 2020 but the pics look the same.

I think I will either try browns brassiere or the Clermont in Charing Cross.
Which one might be better? Taking two friends who haven't been to England ever. Thank you

Browns Hotel. Lovely.

In london last weekend there were double decker buses on regent street that were set up to do afternoon tea along with a bus tour. I didn't do it so no idea if any good or how much but certainly something different.

RedRosie · 04/12/2022 20:23

This is fun. Especially from the top deck b-bakery.com/london/bus-tours/afternoon-tea-bus-london

Has anyone been to firmdale hotels, ham yard? Soho?
That's about 40pp opp.

Rina66 · 05/12/2022 15:58

I have, it was very nice, lots of areas to be tucked away in.

beguilingeyes · 05/12/2022 16:07

There's an ice cream Parlour called The Parlour on the first floor at Fortnum and Mason. They do savoury dishes and cream teas and it's much better value than the posh tea place on the top floor.
They do a thing where you can have a savoury dish and scones and cream for £22.95. There are also many ice cream sundaes and cakes.
You also get to see Fortnums Christmas Department which is gorgeous.

I've not been to that one but have been to the Kensington one in the same hotel group. It was nice enough - lovely setting - but the food wasn't as good as either at Fortnum's or The Wolseley imo. The scones were excellent though!
