Could any lecturers help?

Hello,

I wonder if any lecturers could share their pathway to the role? I'm in the creative industry, selling my business in the next year and have always wanted to share and teach.

I have a degree and 25+ years industry experience but what do I need to do next to train and convert this experience into something useful?

I've been looking online at jobs and roles I'd like to be in a position to apply for in the future a PHD is mentioned in some but not in all?

But could you study this while working? Do I need to get some visiting work first? Or a teaching degree?

I'm mid 40s and would love to support and nurture the new generation as I employe and mentor already and have defined this is the aspect I prefer over the commercial side of the industry, but I have no experience teaching and I need to check I'm any good! Before I assume it's a role I could do.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

DH & I are both lecturers with PhDs but we have loads of colleagues at various institutions who came in from industry without one. The unis, want your skills and contacts. I would put in a few applications and see what happens. Personally, I would not pay for a PhD hoping to secure a job, the way the sector is right now.

Ok that's really good to know, I was going to email my local uni who are currently advertising, but thought I don't have the qualifications to really move forward.

Is there a shortage right now?

Is there a shortage right now?

Quite the opposite in arts subjects. That's why I would market your industry experience/credentials. They will be much more in demand than a PhD.
