What medicine do you give your Dc when they have a cold/cough?

DD 10 has a raised temp today (not fever yet) and has been coughing since yesterday. It's not Covid and she seems fine when she's not coughing. She's spent the morning in bed. If I was like her, I'd take some lemsip and get on with it, however it says only for 16 and above. The other similar stuff I have says only for 12 and over. What do you use for your Dc?

Watching with interest. DS is 9 and I still give him nurofen for up to 9 year olds when he's under the weather, but I know he's on the cusp of that working. There used to be a nurofen for up to 12 year olds bur impossible to get these days!

For daytime, Bronchostop Junior and there is a benylin children's night time cough mixture which I give to Dd age 8 it really helped calm the nighttime cough and then the usual calpol or nurofen for pain and fever.

Nothing. I've never given them any medicine when they've had a cold, unless they're in pain when I'd give them paracetamol.

@SusanPerbCallMeSue neither have I! That's why I don't know what's best for this age. She has a tournament tomorrow that she absolutely wants to go to. She missed the last one and the reserve is injured so if she doesn't go the team will either not be allowed to play or have to play one short. She's not in pain and she doesn't have a fever (yet) and says she's fine to play.

@RavenT I've heard there's a shortage /supply issues.

Ooh I don't really know. I tend not to take stuff either. The only time I have I had that stuff you squirt up your nose (if she's bunged up and sniffly) That was horrible, but effective for a few hours. Not sure what age it's from.

Cough wise buttercup syrup helped. One of my friends uses Covonia, and says that's good.

I like slushies to soothe my throat best though. Don't suppose there's a slushie machine where you're going?

Hope she manages to take part.
