Exercise after mole removal

I had a mole removed from my back yesterday and was advised not to exercise while it healed. I should have asked for more info at the time, but now I'm wondering how long this will take. I'm a runner, and it helps me manage stress. I've got a lot of stress on at the moment, and want to get out there asap!

The incision has six stitches and is currently covered in a waterproof dressing so I can shower. I get very sweaty when running though, so I imagine the dressing would get manky if I went for a run.

Sigh. I'm feeling sorry for myself.

id wait until the stitches were out.

They're dissolvable, and I think she said it would take a couple of weeks. Surely I don't have to wait that long?

Ugh… can you put a larger dressing over it to protect it from sweat?

I had exactly the same procedure and I am also a keen runner. I waited 3 weeks.

However my mole was removed from below my breast bone.

go for walks instead.

the extra sweat and muscle tension from running could make the stitches dissolve faster and make the wound fape open = bigger scar and longee healing time and risk of infection.

6 stitches?! Did they excise a big area around it, too?

I was thinking more about the sweat underneath the dressing. I think I'll just take it easy for a week, and see how the incision looks at that point. I'm assuming the dressing will have fallen off by then.

Yeah that's probably my best bet.

I didn't pay enough attention to this advice and did top much after my mole removal. Ended up with a huge infection, abcess and then sepsis. Hospitalised and instead of a small scar I now have a huge ugly keloid scar where they had to remove more tissue.

Yikes! Poor you!

I've just had similar, although not a mole. Was told not until the stitches were out, mine weren't disolveable, but preferably two week. I'll be two weeks this coming Wednesday but feel I could run now . I'd see how it feels?

SobranieCocktail · 03/12/2022 09:22

It was about 3mm in size, and they excised 2mm around it. I mean, that sounds pretty small to me!

I had a mole taken from my shin and it was weeks before I could run. You’ll fare much better with it on your back I’m sure but I’d echo waiting for the stitches. I did too much too soon and have a much bigger scar than I needed to have as a result.

lljkk · 03/12/2022 09:32

Think my mole removals were maximum one stitch & nowadays would be closed with steristrips. Mine came out for cosmetic reasons, though.

midgetastic · 03/12/2022 09:48

You go too soon and the wound opens up

At least a week possibly 2

Speaking from experience- the day after stitches removed I got carried away and a hole reappeared
