Struggling with varifocals

I have reached that age (50) where I need reading glasses 🤓 all the time, and have made the decision to go for varifocals, rather than having to constantly put glasses on and off! The reading lens correction is spot on , however I'm struggling with the correction I have been given for long sightedness (+0.5 /+0.75). I hate how everything is magnified, and as I don't struggle with my distance vision , I think would have preferred no correction at all .
I'm giving myself another week of wearing them more or less constantly ( have had them for 10 days), before I go back to the opticians , but I don't know what they will suggest , or charge me for if I ask for different lenses, as these cost a lot ....
Anyone else got any tips , or any opticians out there who can give me some advice ?

I wear varifocals, but I am short ighted so for me they have been a game changer.
They do take a little while to get used to, but it is quite possible that they need adjusting. DH has some and went forwards and backwards to the optician until they got the fit spot on.

I would go back to the optician and talk to them.

This is why buying varificals online is never a good idea because if they are a tiny bit out then they are a nightmare.

Long time varifocal user here. About one time in three when having a new pair I have to go back and get them to replace the lenses, after a couple of days, because they've not given me a big enough middle distance portion in the lens. So, go back and explain your problem (which is not the same as mine usually is). It may just be a adjustment of the frame, or you may need different lenses. You are the customer so expect good service.

Persevere in short bursts. My first pair were a bloody nightmare. Because I didn't need them for driving I only wore them occasionally. After a few months something clicked and I now wear them all the time without problems.

Thank you for you replies. I've booked to go back to the optician in 7 days, will persevere with them until then !

DH had exactly the same problem as you. He tried for about ten days and just couldn’t get used to them. Back at the opticians they looked again and decided the lenses needed a different ratio ( not sure that’s the right term) and ordered new ones from Zeiss at no extra cost. As soon as he put them on he knew they were going to be fine and he took only a couple of days to be completely comfortable. Don’t assume it’s your fault it’s almost certainly the lenses.

I have worn them for 40 years! I was a very short-sighted child. I find them brilliant.

They need careful calibrating for individual needs and it is entirely normal to go back and have a change - I have done it several times with no problems. They do not bat an eyelid.

Remember that you need to be careful going downstairs for a while till you adapt to them. Make sure you are not looking through the reading bit when you look down at the stairs!

What happened with your glasses OP? I am on day 2 of trying varifocals for the first time and I currently hate them. I hate not having full vision, I am going to give them a few days but I don't think they are going to be ok for me.

Go back to your optician. Often it is because they haven't been adjusted properly. I wear varifocals and they are honestly the best thing since sliced bread.
