Plumber had to come back, would you expect to pay extra?

He's done quite a big heating repair for me today, price agreed in advance, all good. But when I got home c. 8:30 the house was roasting! The heating is definitely working but the thermostat in the living room wasn't talking to the boiler so the heating was running constantly regardless of what the timer or the temperature setting is.

I called him, thinking there'd be a simple fix that he could talk me through, but there wasn't and he offered to "pop round" so I said yes please.

It's not clear what the problem was but he fixed it by returning the unit to factory settings and re setting it. He was here about an hour.

I don't know if he intends to charge, I've asked him to send me an invoice for what I owe. Would you expect there to be an extra charge for this evening?

No I wouldn’t expect to be charged for that

If it was very quickly sorted, an extension of the job he'd already done, and/or no parts required I wouldn't expect to pay.

If it was a new problem, needed parts, took a substantial amount of time, I'd expect to pay.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 02/12/2022 22:41

No additional charge as initial job was not completed fully

VisitingThem · 02/12/2022 22:42

No he shouldn't be charging extra for fixing a fault due to him not commissioning it properly.

Bogglebrain · 02/12/2022 22:42

No I wouldn’t expect to be charged either - it’s part of the after service,

No I wouldn't. Our bathroom fitter is coming out tomorrow to fix an issue with the extractor vent pipe, he fitted the bathroom 18 months ago (the issue is because of the way he angled the pipe). He's not charging.
Your job wasn't finished properly.

Dh used to do this kind of work and would not have charged for this (unless the issue was caused by the client in some way) so no I wouldn't expect you to have to pay.
