What’s in your loft?

Omg went up there today to get the Christmas decorations down and my heart sank at the amount of stuff up there and how it will ever be sorted especially as I am thinking of moving next year.

I’ve got suitcases full of old clothes including my wedding dress, old toys, stuff from the previous owners, black bags with clean duvets, Christmas decorations, hallowe’en stuff, kitchen stuff that doesn’t fit in the cupboards, just stuff and more and more stuff. I seriously downsized when I moved in here five years ago and everything was in good condition so I kept it but really I should have got rid of it then.

Is everyone else’s in the same state?!

Nothing. It is not a designated storage space

XenoBitch · 02/12/2022 20:02

Xmas stuff (just me now so see no point getting it all out), and spare dining room chairs.

JMAngel1 · 02/12/2022 20:09

Oh god, don 't - we're having a loft conversion next summer and I am dreading the clear out beforehand. I've actually got me and DH booked in for annual leave for 3 days in May to get it done. I feel many many arguments coming on - he is a natural hoarder and I am ruthless - it is not going to go well 😆

Pinkandgreentrousers · 02/12/2022 20:11

2 bedrooms and a bathroom

I'm praying for you 🙏😂. I really do need to go in my loft and clear it out. Probably insulate it again too.

Spiders mostly … I have been watching this American documentary series about people who unknowingly have a stranger living in their house, usually hiding in the attic or crawl space… It’s really creepy, I now kind of feel like I should check the attic but I’m too scared to 🫣

Skyeheather · 02/12/2022 20:14

Everything that DP has ever owned because he can't bring himself to get rid of anything, even broken/worn out/no good to anyone things in case he might need them one day. He's always telling me I need to get rid of some of my stuff because his pile just gets bigger and bigger as the years go on!

@frenchnoodle and @PeachSquashAddict I think @bloodywhitecat s husband passed away earlier this year.

He did but he would chuckle at those responses.

upfucked · 02/12/2022 20:17

Too much

  • toys to rotate
  • Christmas decorations
  • halloween decorations
  • fans
  • loads of cardboard boxes (DH fault🙄)
  • DD1 clothes to hand down to DD2
  • I think DH hid stuff up there instead of rid of stuff
  • a dressing table which the loft must have been built around as I can’t see how else it got up there
  • loads more I don’t know about
Timeforachangeisitnot · 02/12/2022 20:18

For PPs worried about their ‘stuff’ :It may be crap but it probably helps insulate your house - so think of the positives.
DH announced he was going to clear the attic out last month, but turns out there’s not much up there except Christmas decorations and a roll of the stair carpet offcuts.

I asked for the post to be deleted after I read the update. I'm sorry to hear that.
It's not the first time I've put my foot in it.

2 bedrooms and a bathroom

🤣🤣🤣🤣best answer!!

mondaytosunday · 02/12/2022 20:22

My daughter, as it's converted to a bedroom and en suite.
My last house I had a huge loft with a tiny access door. I never put anything there as they kinda freak me out and I know anything up there would stay til I moved. I have a storage room I rent instead.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/12/2022 20:22

Cardboard boxes, Christmas decorations and the starlings who live up there!

@onedayiwillflyaway1

leave it & call it insulation!!!

ErinAoife · 02/12/2022 20:24

My ex husband used to dump everything in the loft, so it is full of crap. Once I was looking for a cheque of £ 1000 to bring it to the bank, I could not find it anywhere, told him about it and he went to the loft with a pile of paperwork he had put there and the cheque was here.

MarthaMayWhovier · 02/12/2022 20:24

Working?

SkylightSkylight · 02/12/2022 20:33

@Longestnight my loft is boarded & I've always look at it as a storage space. It's always been brilliant and it was very organised, but I have a problem now. I live alone & had an accident 18 months ago and on top of that, my knees have given up on life. So access is very difficult for me now.

im trying to find a more suitable left ladder and IF I can, it'll be great and much more useful again.

I do know pretty much exactly what's up there, and I'm hoping to move house so that I can use it all again. This place is too bloody tiny!

I am an incredibly senitemental person & was brought up in a 'this'll come in handy' household!! So it hurts to get rid of stuff and when I have I've mostly regretted it, so that doesn't help!!

Please don't worry, you were not to know Flowers

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/12/2022 20:44

Nothing. Nothing in the garage either.

illiterato · 02/12/2022 20:55

An absolute explosion of that yellow insulating stuff. As in the whole loft is full of it. No wonder I barely need the heating on upstairs.

Oatsamazing · 02/12/2022 20:55

I just laid down a load of boards in the loft of our new house today. Put summer clothes, stuff of my DD's that I want to keep like first shoes, etc. and a load of my partner's stuff he didn't want to sort through Hmm. The previous occupants put a strip light up there so it's nice and bright and tidy. Took a day's annual leave to sort it as I generally have a 2 year old hanging off me at the weekend Grin

Proudofitbabe · 02/12/2022 21:16

Christmas decs, suitcases, my wedding dress, and books left by previous owner which we'll also leave when the time comes. Not too shabby!

netflixandnaps · 02/12/2022 21:39

I have .. wedding dresses, baby/toddler/childs clothes, cot, cot bed, TVs, DVD players, video recorder, books, videos, stereo, toys, toys and more toys, countless plastic storage boxes with who knows what inside, cassette tapes, rugs, several fans, a wicker chair, wooden chest, Christmas stuff, 10 bin bags of my clothes and shoes, wrapping paper, bags, cushions, 4ft canvas painting, my sons school work books, big empty bottles, oh, nearly forgot my Y2K survival kit!!!!!!!!

.. and the 'baby' clothes that I can't part with belongs to my son who's now in his mid 20s!

I can't even get into my loft anymore, it's a kinda throw up there and hope for the best that when I need to go up next time, I don't get flattened by something.
