How much is your food shop now costing?

Ours for a family of 4 is between £500-£600 per month 😳

This is including alcohol, cleaning products, household items, toiletries etc.

We shop at Asda for the majority and the local butchers for meat.

I'm shocked at the cost!

We're very much the same. Family of four with two small dogs and a cat and we're about £600. We shop at Asda and Costco for the meats as it works out cheaper but still insanely expensive.

Dorsetdingle77 · 02/12/2022 12:17

£100-£115 per week, 2 adults, 1 teenager, 2 cats and a dog. We eat all our meals from home except DS has school lunches.

TeaCosyApplePie · 02/12/2022 12:19

£80-90 per week at Aldi for a family of four including alcohol and toiletries/ cleaning stuff. I meal plan carefully and keep dinners simple.

Yeah ours is between £800 and £1000 a month. Family of five and a dog. That's everything including wine. Combination of Tesco and Aldi.

Tdcp · 02/12/2022 12:21

About £115 a week all in, we all have pack lunches though so it's breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks for 3 of us, 2 cats and household items like cleaning products/ loo roll etc. Was about £60 a week pre covid..

ChilomenaPunk · 02/12/2022 12:22

Quite a bit more. Used to spend £100-£110 on click and collect at Aldi in 2020/21, now it's more like £130-£140. Five of us - five adults basically (three adults, two teenagers). Quite a bit of non-food stuff included there too.

Iliveinanoodie · 02/12/2022 12:23

I've just reduced mine by about £200 pm. This is by ordering online weekly instead of a big monthly shop with the fresh top ups every few days. It definitely seems to work.

SilverCatStripes · 02/12/2022 12:23

Between £800-£1000 a month, 2 adults and 2 children, and 4 cats.

warofthemonstertrucks · 02/12/2022 12:24

Family if six, two dogs, 1 cat. 150-170 a week .

It's not sustainable really :(

Atmywitsend29 · 02/12/2022 12:24

Family of 3 - 2 adults, 1 10yo boy.
Our shop is costing us £90 a fortnight. So £180 a month.
We shop at Aldi, we no longer by alcohol or desserts or very many treats. We also don't buy fresh meat. We literally buy the basics and cleaning products.
We just have no choice. That's all we have available for food.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/12/2022 12:25

Between £80-90pw from Sainsburys

It used to be £60-70pw

That's for all our food for the week, clean products

But it doesn't include nappies and wipes which we fry from aldi

2 adults and DD21 months

We do have a dog and 2 cats but we get their food elsewhere

Lyricallie · 02/12/2022 12:26

Family of 2 adults with a spaniel. Probably £60-80per week including the pup. We mainly shop in Lidl with some bits from the butchers too. We have a veg box which was £250 for 15 weeks. However we have to supplement it as it’s mainly root veg and nice fresh eggs.

Yerroblemom1923 · 02/12/2022 12:29

£200 a month (2 adults, 1 teen) if we're strict with ourselves, meal plan and stick to list with no additional extras eg middle of Lidl stuff. Prior to CoLC, I could do a weekly shop for £30 if a really tight week. We dont eat meat at every meal. I cook from scratch. Lunch is home made veg soup/sandwiches, dinners things that will last 2 days eg cottage pie, lasagne or simply jacket potato, cheese & beans . It's the meat and fish that really adds up.

BigusBumus1 · 02/12/2022 13:06

I buy daily for things we have run out of and that nights dinner. I spend about £50 a day for everything including all cleaning stuff and dog food, alcohol and toiletries. I dont shop on a Saturday though, so about £300 a week.

Family of 5 which includes 3 massive body-builder older teen boys and 3 dogs.

I shop mainly in Lidl and nice extra bits in Waitrose.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 02/12/2022 13:07

Yeah. Family of three. Used to be £60-£70 in 20/21 now it's closer to £100!

SpinningFloppa · 02/12/2022 13:07

Family of 5 (1 adult 4 kids) £150/200 a week.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 02/12/2022 13:07

hellosunshineagainxxx · 02/12/2022 13:07

Yeah. Family of three. Used to be £60-£70 in 20/21 now it's closer to £100!

A week that is lol

IncessantNameChanger · 02/12/2022 13:12

That doesn't seem high compaired to what othes say on these type of posts. Mine is around £350-£400 for 6 of us. No brands no booze. I think it's very possible to reduce your costs. It's VERY easy if you want to reduce it just for say one week or one month. Try to use up all the things you have lurking in cupboards etc.

PeloFondo · 02/12/2022 13:18

Just me, between £45-60 a week depending what I need. I don't drink at home so no alcohol and cat food bought separately

oceanbleu · 02/12/2022 13:19

Ours was about £100, gone up to £130

NameChange329435 · 02/12/2022 13:21

£150 a week now, 2 adults 3DC

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 02/12/2022 13:34

About 500 for 4 adults

December will be higher though due to Xmas food and more people at home.

Then January I am going to work our way through the food in the freezer so only by the fresh food to fill gaps

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2022 13:38

About £110 a week for two adults and two cats.
That's all in, including the butcher, Tesco's and Morrison's.
I am also including stuff we get for the house on Subscribe and Save (Amazon).

I would have said £80 all in, about 18 months ago - so yes, it's gone up a lot.

Herbie0987 · 02/12/2022 13:42

We are 2 adults and spend £40-£45 per week including alcohol from Lidl. We have grandchildren once a week and provide nappies and wipes. I bought a large chicken this week reduced to under £3, it will make at least 3 meals,

sometimes have to go to Asda for things can’t get in Lidl.

Baconand · 02/12/2022 13:45

We are spending the same but buying less to achieve it. £125pw for 2 adults (all meals and snacks), plus DD but she is fed at nursery for 4 days and all cleaning/basic toiletries and medicines eg paracetamol.
