Olly Murs song I hate you when you’re drunk

I’ve heard this song on radio 2 a couple of times (where it has been chosen as record of the week) and along with it being a crap Olly Murs song, to me the lyrics are highly questionable. It’s bizarre. Sounds like a controlling man telling a (presumably female) partner how they should behave. It seems really regressive and I am surprised it’s being given a high profile on the radio.
Anyone else find this song weird?

I have friends who do this when pissed and it is embarrassing, not “ha ha aren’t we awesome ladies on a night out “. With another I can see the tipping point as her eyes start to glaze over and she tells you the same things over and over again. I don’t think it’s unfair to say you don’t like it (or to make a song about it). And I do very much like quite a lot of wine!

It's about hating drunks. I hate drinks. I don't care whether they're my best friend, husband or stranger.

I also think this is a deliberate move from Olly Murs record labels. Create some controversy, it’s what they do. And if works, we’re all talking about him. I listened to the song on my Alexa to see what everyone was talking about. It’s a bit of a risk for him but no doubt it’ll all be fine and will get him attention and a few more streams. Job done.

Maybe the title of this song should be " I'm so fantastic you shouldn't want to drink, dance and have fun when you are with me because I am an actual God and you should worship me".

He could have left out the part about him being so wonderful to stick around, but...I hate people when they are drunk. I have hated my (male) ex partners when they were drunk - the telling stories for the fourth time, the sloppiness. I don't think anyone is improved by drinking, I hate watching people's personalities change, and I have no sympathy for a hangover. So I don't think it's necessarily misogynistic.

I hate it when you sing this song, Olly Murs. It’s horrible.

I found it quite emotional and not at all anti-women, just anti-alcohol. Where is the 'controlling' that people are seeing? To me the song is about an alcoholic and an enabler, and I bet there are millions of people who have thought this about their partner.

i think a lot of people can relate to those lyrics actually, whether you’re male or female.

I hate it when people are drunk too - tbh we have a massive problem with people drinking too much in this country so if this makes people think again, then it's all good.
