Is anyone else always cold?

This isn't a CoL or heating issue. I can afford to put the heating on. But I'm just cold all the time. In situations where everyone else seems comfortable. At work, loads of layers on, still cold. Outside walking around and shopping, massive jacket and scarf etc, still cold.
In the car, heating on, still cold. In bed, fleece, pj's, hot water bottle, blanket, still cold.
And by feeling cold I mean I feel chilled, like goosebumps, shivers down my spine. Hot radiators etc warm up my skin but inside I still feel cold.
Does anyone else feel like this or am I just a massive wimp?

Sounds like you might have a medical condition. Have you had your bloods tested?

CapitanSandy · 02/12/2022 11:42

I felt cold like this when I was anaemic. Things like under active thyroid can make you feel cold too. Maybe worth having a blood test.

OhGingleBells · 02/12/2022 11:44

Me too. Always have a blanket over me on the sofa, electric blanket at night, teeth chatter nearly every time I go outside.

Often feel deeply chilled, down to my bones even when I’m not too cold on the surface. I also regularly get an icy cold nose indoors with heating on. After shaving my legs, as soon as I get a little bit shivery the hairs come straight back with the goosebumps!

However, I really struggle with hot weather as well! Makes me feel quite poorly and I go all limp and weak while other people are enjoying the sunshine. Frequently suffered from sunstroke as a child on holidays. Hated the heat last summer.

Do your hands go red/purple? Wondering if you have Raynauds?

Yes, about a month ago for something unrelated and they were fine.
I keep thinking it's just cos it's cold and everyone's cold. But it's getting me down. I'm sat in bed with a duvet, blanket, wooly jumper, body warmer and long sleeved thermal top. And still cold.
I know moving around would help. But when I'm this cold I can't motivate myself to do anything.

I used to until I started on thyroid meds for an underactive thyroid (albeit sub-clinical according to the NHS, I had to go private). Life changing!

Yes. Hot weather is a pain too! I wonder if some people are better at regulating their temperature than others?

I don't think I have any other symptoms though.

I get Reynauds in my hands if I don't wear gloves. But thought that only affected the extremities. So didn't think I could blame that for general coldness

Getting bloods done may help Find the reason. Underactive thyroid, nutrient deficiencies etc. I used to be sort of vegetarian and I was cold a lot. Eating more meat like steak got rid of that problem.

We have heating set to 20 degrees in evening, teen dd,ds and dh all complain it is too hot. I am sat under a heated blanket and still cold. I take hot water bottle to bed every night through till May.
I had all my bloods done this year and apart from low Vit D they were all normal.
I do have low resting heart rate, wonder if that has anything to do with it.
I hate hot summer weather too.

CaraVann · 02/12/2022 12:52

I am exactly the same. I was anaemic for years and thought it was because of that but I had an infusion 9 months ago and now have normal iron levels and am still freezing all the time. I think it’s just me though as I’ve always been a chilly mortal but I do also have Raynaud’s so maybe I have bad circulation? I’m perimenopausal so at least I don’t get hot sweats, that’s one bonus I suppose. I hate winter though because dh works outside and is never cold. It’s a constant battle with the heating dial.

potas · 02/12/2022 15:16

Interestingly I am pretty much vegetarian and am often deficient in vitamin D.
maybe I need to look at my diet.
Thanks, it was a bit of a moany post but actually some good ideas on causes.

Are you very thin?

Firsttimemama12345 · 02/12/2022 15:54

Hm, have you tried getting a blood test? Short term solution is soup and layers. You would be surprised the number of times a cup of warm tea/coffee has helped me feel warmer. Also try herbal warming soups, there is a homeopathic recipe for everything, some of them really work!

TigerRag · 02/12/2022 16:30

Yes! Either too hot or too cold. I do have medication which has helped.

emmathedilemma · 02/12/2022 16:51

I’m either boiling or freezing, rarely a comfortable temperature and often cold when others aren’t. Yet when I exercise I overheat and sweat a lot and really struggle in warm climates, particularly if it’s also humid. I often feel like my body thermostat is wonky!

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 02/12/2022 17:15

Is it maybe an age thing?

My husband is early 60s and has started to complain about being cold for only the last couple of years. He's been wearing cardis and jumpers for about a month now.

I'm late 50s and have always hated warm weather, preferring autumn/winter . This year is the first time that I've found myself hating taking the dog for a walk , shopping and even gardening at this time of year. And it's been relatively mild too.

Are you very thin?

No. Not thin or fat to any extreme. Just in the middle.
