Are there any companies who treat women as the default human?

So I was on the lookout for a new waterproof, and I googled 'Montane Garwhal' (random waterproof where Garwhal is a model name for both men and women, but I'm sure you can replace with any other brand). All the results on Google images and shopping were of the men's model. To get women's jackets I had to search 'Montane Garwhal Women's'.

We all know that men are the default human 🙄 But I've just been thinking about this a bit. Is it JUST the naming of the products that's at fault? So men's products are called eg "XXX Trainers" and the women's version is called "XXX Trainers Women's", but both pairs of trainers are actually designed from scratch to fit male/female feet and needs? Or is the entire design process aimed at men, so they design a pair of trainers for men and then just make them a bit smaller and change the colour and call them women's trainers?

I realise nobody can answer this for all products everywhere! But I wondered if this male default was very pervasive at the design stage generally.

Are there any companies which design products for women and then adapt them for men?! And call them "XXX Trainers" and "XXX Trainers Men's"?

Computer games are generally made by men for men so the default is a male character (I don’t count Lara Croft, who was so buxom she wouldn’t be able to run).

Recently a major game was released with a female protagonist and a bunch of people moaned that she had peach fuzz. It was pointed out that women, generally, do have some hair on their faces and this character was too busy battling evil robots to remove it.

I have a bank account, it was opened by me, with my ID, my husband was added. He has now been magicked into primary account holder, I have to use his card info & log in to do certain payments. I suppose its fraud ?

My bestie opened HSBC account when she was young, light yrs later her husband was added. They are now divorcing, she went to close the account, ( with his accord) guess what, she can't, he is primary account holder.
He was literally a school boy in shorts in a British colony when she opened it in the UK, & put her single lady's salary into it.

When setting up our French tax account at "Les Impots" (tax is charged per foyer, not individually) I had the option on whose name to put first o the tax declaration. All their communications now are addressed to Mme et M Avery.

My DH thinks all smart phone and tablet manufacturers have women as the default human because the buttons are too small for his big old man sized hands.

Might be my Google algorithms but when I search Didrikson jackets It defaults to womens jackets. They do sell mens jackets but I need to search for them specifically.

Pretty sure half the women I know own a Didrikson coat as they really are brilliant. Good for them for knowing their market.

Otoh most iPhones are far too big for small women's hands.

I am a runner and when I enter a race they often include a tshirt in the cost, and you generally chose out of (occassionally xs) s, m, l, xl.
I am short and a size 8. I'd rather pay slightly less and not have a men's tshirt. When they say small it generally means a small mens tshirt.

A lot of women runners are fairly slim so a "small" mens tshirt is still way too big....but I think I've done one race that differentiated between mens and womens fit tshirts.

This issue is often raised when they collect feedback, and some races do offer women's fit now. They're usually pretty crap t.shirts anyway - might as well get a big one and use it for gardening!

The various company logo'd shirts I've been given over the decades were often decent cotton (American) but overlarge - I wouldn't really want to wear them anyway so they've been used as nightshirts. The exception was an actual shirt with a discreet logo which, with its sleeves rolled up, made a decent pregnancy tunic.
They've got better in recent years.

I'd go for a men's XS if available as women's don't fit me well. They are made for women with proportions I don't have.

If that was HSBC as well, they're useless (and very probably acting illegally) in how they randomly change the assignees of an account. We've had it happen twice - once on an executor's account, where they just added the spouse to the statements who had nothing to do with the executorship.

In the days when they still sent junk mail in the post, we also used to get two copies of every marketing leaflet, every time, both addressed to Mrs Sausageroll and nothing ever for Mr Sausageroll.

I've been appalled by how incompetent HSBC have been, time and time again, but I'm just not convinced that any of the big banks are any different. Unfortunately, banks are not like certain other industries such as broadband or telecoms (and, until a couple of years ago, energy suppliers), where there is always a 'little guy' independent option. Even if you do join a 'smaller' bank, they're usually just a brand owned by one of the big boys.

It's good to have the choice, but bad not to offer it, based on very common variations that many, many people have, according to sex-based body shapes.

I'm guessing that, even for a lot of very small women, the men's XS will be much too big in most areas but may be annoyingly tight around the chest area.

I notice this in the news.

Male motorcyclist crashes into a lamppost "motorcyclist crashes into lamppost"

Female is "woman motorcyclist crashes into lamppost"

This is partly because more people click on stories when the person who has died is a woman. Don't ask me why that's the case but it seems to be so.

I have a part time job which is outdoors and requires work clothing.

Mens work clothing - at least 10 ranges and colours in sizes up to morbidly obese.

Womens work clothing - one range with only two colours available and stops at size 14.

Indeed. A man XS fits me ok ish - but if it's long it is snug on my hips (which are narrow but definitely female)

Yes, I completely agree that there should be choice. It's annoying for me if the existence of women's sizes mean that the men's start at a small or medium though. I'm a 10 in women's tops, but they are much too big on the hips and look silly on me.
