When do you wash spare room bedding?

I normally wash spare room bedding the day before we have guests coming to stay, so it’s nice and fresh. But that does mean that we aren’t ready for guests to stay at no notice

We’ve just had some guests come to stay at very short notice (thankfully they were also the last guests, so no need to wash bedding). It’s made me wonder if we should be more prepared

I change the bed when guests leave unless I know they're coming to stay again soon. Personally I would prefer not to have febreeze or any other artificial smelling thing sprayed onto anything I'm sleeping on

After they've been used.

I wash it straight away and then remake in case it’s needed at short notice

I have one guest who stays fairly regularly so the sheets tend to stay on unless someone else is due to stay, in which case I’d wash them as soon as possible. If no one is due to stay for a while I sometimes leave it unmade but it looks tidier with sheets on. I have at least one spare set for that bed so it’s not a big deal if I needed to change them for someone else at short notice.

Depends on how soon it will be used & if by same person.

If I know I will have the same bed occupant back in a few days, eg. ds bookending a visit to a mate with staying with me before & after, no bed change.

Dd1 frequently has a mate for a weekend sleepover...that bed gets changed every 2-4 stays/once a month.

If guest A is departing Sunday & guest B arriving Thursday, say, stripped & made up again in one fell swoop.

Guest A departing & no one else expected for weeks - bed stripped, funky king size blanket over the top to keep dust off, fresh linen set together in a pillow case in the wardrobe. Emergency situations eg one of the teenagers' mates stranded - crash on top of funky blanket in a sleeping bag from the cupboard of sleeping bags 😆.

I strip, wash and remake every bed as soon as they go. This also goes for my DC's beds, if they're here for a weekend, I still strip it and remake it.

I like the thought that there's always clean beds ready just in case.

Please dont use febreeze on things. Not only is it awful stuff its bad for people's breathing

margegunderson · 13/02/2023 18:32

we only have overnight guests about three times a year. I’d wash after they leave then maybe fabreeze or a quick cycle or even just in the dryer with a dryer sheet to freshen them up before they stay
So you just want them to smell strongly of something chemical to prove they're clean?
Honestly leave them on the bed if you expect guests to return within say a month - and they weren't in those sheets for a month.
Otherwise wash, put away and make the bed as required. It's not rocket science is it?

After it's been used. Then left in airing cupboard until required. A nice bedspread keeps the bed, pillows, duvet free from dust.
