New owner sending parcels to a house they do not own yet

We complete on the house next Tuesday.

I have just received a sizeable package for the next owners. It came from overseas and the only option for the courier was to send it back.

My conscience got the better of me and I took it in. But I will have to give it to a neighbour to look after so it doesn't get packed up with our stuff.

House house is small- no room to store things.

Would it be awful of me to refuse any other packages that happen to arrive for them?

WWYD?

They new owners could have had the parcel delivered to where they are now or to friends or family or a parcel reception service.

You're missing the most crucial part of this in that the new owners most likely didn't actually send the parcel in the first place and if they did they obviously didn't anticipate it arriving before they moved in so why would they send it anywhere but the property they assumed they would be living in.

They don’t own the house yet

They don’t own the house yet

What an odd post, no one has said they own the house but realistically they also won't own the house they currently live in on Tuesday so by that logic the parcel shouldn't have been sent to the property they are currently living in either incase it arrived after Tuesday.

It's not anyone's fault that the parcel arrived earlier than intended, it doesn't make them cheeky or rude or entitled its simply one of those things.the most sensible plan given the current postal issues and the fact it was coming from abroad was always going to be to send it to the new house.

It’s not odd. It’s a statement of fact. it’s lucky that they didn’t have to pay any import costs on the parcel as it’s from abroad. I wouldn’t give an address out some time in advance for a property I did not own yet.

Of course it's an odd comment no one ever said it was their house or that they owned it. In wondering what address you feel they should they have given out?

The fact that they don’t own the house is in the OP post title so it’s not odd to say. You ask what address they should use? That’s is an odd question. They should give the address they use to receive post. If they want post to arrive at an address that is not their legal address they need to ask the people whose address it is first. This is not an ask a neighbour to receive a parcel situation when you fill in the details of next door or a few doors down (asking first). So a parcel sent some time ago from abroad… ask the house owners first, have it delivered to a parcel receiving service, have it sent to a collection locker.. there are many possibilities. I wouldn’t give out an address for a place I didn’t own yet. This address was handed out a while ago for an overseas parcel. I’d not accept a parcel that would get in the way without being asked first. I would then still still say no and the possible new owners could have the package sent elsewhere so that they could collect it. Easy.
