Listerine Mouthwash (Gum Treatment) - Not for everyday?

I have stage 4 gum disease. There were weeks in the past year when I was constantly distressed by the bleeding, the pain and the feeling that something was rotten inside the deep pockets which is nearly impossible to reach by any brush. I've been seen by my NHS dentist every 3 months, who seemed to think it's getting under control with all the excessive cleaning I've done every night and day. But that didn't do enough to how my gum felt.

I found all the dental hygienic products I could search for and tried them all. With Tepee, Corsodyl toothpaste, electric toothbrush and Listerine Gum Treatment, it started improving massively.

Then until I read the advice that was passed on by many from their dentists "one shouldn't touch mouth wash" (seems to do with killing good bacteria) on MN. I stopped using Listerine before another episode of swalleness/soreness/bleeding erupted. I couldn't put it under control for over 3 weeks, along with all the other rigorous cleaning I did. In the end, I yielded and started the mouthwash again. Like a miracle, I saw significant improvement in the first week and by the 2nd week, the problem has all gone and never came back.

I now ponder everyday, if I'm making the wrong decision by keep using this mouthwash. But I fear once I stop, the problem would return.

Can someone shed some light on this?
Is all mouthwash bad in the long run?
Shall I keep it only once/twice a week or stop it all together until I have another episode of bacteria takeover?

Is it not that you shouldn't use mouthwash at the same time as brushing your teeth as it washes the fluoride away? You should use it between brushing instead

If you find its helping then I'd continue using it.

If it's a question of washing off the fluoride in toothpaste, it certainly can be managed. But my understanding was to do with mouthwash kills good bacteria, hence should't be used at all. Perhaps I got it wrong?

Nhs advice:

Should I use mouthwash?

Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, but don't use mouthwash (even a fluoride one) straight after brushing your teeth or it'll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the toothpaste left on your teeth.

Choose a different time to use mouthwash, such as after lunch.

Don't eat or drink for 30 minutes after using a fluoride mouthwash.

I've used the listerene one for the same issue. It blows my head off! The only thing that worked for me was when my dentist gave me a weeks worth of Metronidazole. I was skeptical, but omg! Game changer. She wants to see me every three months. But at £62 a go. (She does a scale and polish on the nhs) it's not happening.

My hygienist said to use mouthwash if I want and it makes me feel better but it doesn't make any difference as far as she's concerned. So that's a bit confusing.

She's all about the dental tape and the little Tepe brushes.

I floss. But I can't get a teepee brush that works for me. They are all too big.

Yes, I was having this discussion with the hygienist yesterday, she used the blue one and got it between my teeth except for a few, but it's quite tricky to do it yourself IMO.
I have blue, red and pink ones at home and I always get the ones with the long 'handle' as I find them easier.
So i do Waterpik, tape, Tepe brush (as best i can) then electric brush with Sensodyne. I don't feel I can do anything more and it's working.

@Sparklingbrook I also dip the tepe brush into Corsodyl toothpaste every other inserts. I think that helped too. At my last visit, the dentist suggested dipping into gels. I haven't looked up it, because the toothpaste seemed sufficiently convenient.

That's worth a try, thanks. I didn't even know there was gel, just had a Google.
