Online grocery shopping

How reliable is online shopping in your area? This is the second morning I’ve had an order just not show up, it had my children’s packed lunches in so now I’m stuck and had to the shop, it seems to be happening so frequently,
orders hours late or just not showing up at all, and it’s the same with all the supermarkets near me

I've used Tesco for around 5 years. They have never cancelled on me or been late. They have been early a few times but always asked politely if I minded accepting the delivery early.

I am finding there are a lot more subs these days. I expect that is because I tend to want their cheaper items from their budget range, and with the rise in the cost of living I'm guessing these are more in demand than before.

My estranged DH has just started using online shopping as he's seriously ill and can't drive and has serious mobility problems. He's using Asda. First week was great and the delivery driver helped him a lot.

This week he'd booked a slot for 1:30-2:30pm, as he had a dentist visit and wouldn't be home earlier. Driver turned up at 1:05pm and called him. Husband said he wouldn't be home for approx 10-15 mins and driver refused to wait. He wouldn't come back and re-deliver either. Called Asda and they said he'd have to re-order (which would take at least 2 days as no slots left) and he wouldn't get his original money refunded for 5 days, so he was left with no food and no money. What's the point of booking a bloody slot if they turn up early and refuse to come back?

Asda did that with me, didn’t turn up then it took 5 days to get a refund I’ve been told with this mornings delivery 3-5 days for a refund, I’m really surprised some people have never had any issues, every time I book I don’t know whether it’s actually going to turn up or not, really must depend where you live.

I use Waitrose and Tesco. Bough have been reliable and only occasionally a little bit late but they’ve alway informed me. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.

Like any online supermarket Ocado is a bit arduous when you’re making your first list. But it’s so easy after that. All your favourites saved and lists made for you if you want. The app is seamlessly easy to use.

(I don’t work for them!)

I’ve had Tesco deliveries for some years now. Recently although I pick 9-10 am, it’s been coming 10.15 am.

I have been ysing Tescos for about 5 years, there are the occasional subs , the one thing that bugs me is I order Sheply cider which is alcohol free and despite me ticking no subs , I often get other low alcohol drinks like larger , koperberg , or coke !
Other than that they are really good , always on time or let me know if there is a issue .

Do you live somewhere quite rural? Where I live there are several supermarkets in a 5 mile area. The only problem I've had is sometimes Sainsbury’s turn up early .

However sometimes I've chatted to the driver and either they haven't come from my nearest store, or, because of staff shortages they have had to drive from West Midlands urban stores out as far as Wales within their deliveries .

shinynewapple22 · 01/12/2022 16:09

If they have been early they have given me the option of accepting it or coming back. This is Sainsbury’s.

No I live in London!

Only time I've ever had one not turn up (and I've had weekly shops for years and years) was when there was thick snow and no one was going anywhere

I’ve done online shopping with Ocado for years and years. In all that time I’ve had one order completely cancelled due to a warehouse fire (and I had enough notice to get to the local small shop to get some essential bits) and two or three where they contacted me to let me know of unavoidable long delay for good reasons.
Sometimes they call and ask if they can deliver early but if I’m not home they are fine with trying someone else and then deliver during my booked slot.
Milkman delivers around midnight and has not missed in the couple of years I’ve been using them.
Veg box was very reliable but I cancelled it due to lack of variety.

Also Ocado don’t charge you until delivery is made so no slow refunds …..
