Where to hide the presents.

So Christmas shopping all done, and all presents wrapped.

But we're to now hide the presnts? They are currently in DSDs room but they will have to move when DSD comes over. I can fit some in a cupboard but now all. So where do I put them??

Please be careful about putting presents in the boot of the car. Round here thieves can get in your car easy as you like and then all your presents are gone. They do stuff with the signal from car keys so you don't even realise it's happened. It could be a Christmas disaster.

I was just coming here to say the same thing, some really sad tales of peoples Christmas presents being nicked because of this

MsNightingale · 30/11/2022 22:06

In laundry baskets, with clean washing piled on top.

In this house, no-one EVER looks in the clean washing baskets except me. 🙄

And also presents being stolen from under the tree. Lots more burglaries in December than any other time of year unfortunately.

I'd go for those plastic crates or bin bags in the loft myself, if I didn't have my wardrobe and cupboard of doom. I'm lucky that my ds doesn't go hunting for Christmas and never has - I could leave them in his wardrobe in plain bags and he wouldn't really notice.

hangsangwitch · 30/11/2022 22:27

My mum used to store them at our neighbours over the road. The neighbour would hide the booze she had purchased for family coming home for xmas at our house to hide it from her drunk of a husband. I can remember hunting for presents in wardrobes and just finding bottles of whisky!

AlwaysLatte · 30/11/2022 22:35

We have a cupboard with a lock dedicated to gifts 🫣
Same here!

RhubarbFairy · 30/11/2022 22:40

We usually stack ours in the boxes on top of the wardrobe and chuck a sheet over them. This year DS1s is still in the box it was delivered in next to my bed and DS2s is in the same state in DHs office. I won't be wrapping them until closer to the time. I've kept them in a couple of those massive plastic bags you get from the market before. The ones you zip up.

Thankfully I regularly leave random bags of timings dotted around the house, so my children don't bat an eyelid.

I like duvet cover and masquerading as laundry suggestion.

Sandysandwich · 30/11/2022 22:48

Mine stay in the car boot.
Or the top shelf of the boiler cupboard inside the big cardboard box that used to hold the spare duvet.

NigellaAwesome · 30/11/2022 22:52

I used to store mine in my office, but I suppose since we are all wfh these days it is t really an option for many.

TribeD · 30/11/2022 22:57

In the wardrobe in the spare room, heating is turned off in there, it's a boring dumping ground so DD wouldn't think it contained anything exciting.

FourChimneys · 30/11/2022 22:57

I used to have a couple of lockable suitcases bought from a charity shop especially for that purpose.

PangoPurrl · 30/11/2022 23:04

Same as last year, but this time write yourself an item/location list!

SunflowerSmith · 30/11/2022 23:08

Ours go in the under stairs cupboard behind all the coats

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 30/11/2022 23:08

Ours are in the eves ... in a little section no one goes because it’s hard to get to. Kids won’t go there because it’s spider central. So great hiding spot 😁

PlinkyPlonk1 · 30/11/2022 23:41

Hiding in plain site. In boxes that are usually empty, but are filled at Xmas. It has never entered my kids' heads to look.

Jeelypieces20storeys · 30/11/2022 23:57

Boot of the car here!

Jeelypieces20storeys · 30/11/2022 23:59

Also have a linkamal and marble rush at the bottom of my laundry basket!

StarboysMum · 01/12/2022 00:33

I used to hide all of mine in the office. Now I wfh most of the time. I have v large boot boxes (i.e shoeboxes for boots) that live empty on a v high shelf most of the year; I fill them in the run up to Christmas and birthdays. Also bottom of my laundry basket (we each have our own).

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 01/12/2022 00:34

Loft. I put up as i buy and write down. Then early nov get up and sort. Its boarded and carpeted. Then list what I need left to buy. Week after go up and wrap in the loft. With 4 dcs i no way have storage
On 23rd /24th dcs go to ils and we get down tie in bin liners and put in garage. If they go out there they just think its stuff for the tip.
The sneak round back through conservatory to lounge so they dont wake.

Also have 2 build bikes, barbie house and svooters at ils in spare room. As wanted to get them built prior.

mac1974 · 01/12/2022 07:21

Mine are in a suitcase in the box room as I can't lift them up into the loft on my own. I will relocate them to the garage tomorrow when I've done my final bit of wrapping. Makes it easier to get out on Xmas eve as the loft hatch is right by the kids room.

dampthursday · 01/12/2022 07:30

We just put them in the spare room (in bags/boxes so you can’t see them if the door is open) and say not to look. My mum did the same,
in her walk in wardrobe in binbags, please don’t look. As far as I’m aware nobody has ever gone and rummaged!

reluctantbrit · 01/12/2022 07:30

We have them all over the house. In bedding trunks, underwear drawer, under the bed, in DH's study, underneath DH's model train set up.

There is a small cupboard where all the wrapping paper etc lives and that holds a couple of items as well.

Garage was for large stuff like the Playmobil castle we pre-assembled one year.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 01/12/2022 08:02

Our bedroom is in the loft and so the presents hide in plain sight. They are all in boxes in the bedroom but we just say it's all the presents for the family and the kids accept that. As it's not for them (so they think) they don't look 🤷🏻‍♀️. Has worked for years.
