Gifts for the dentist

Our dentist has gone way above and beyond for DD who fell at the beginning of the school year and dislodged her two front teeth. Our dentist saw us as an emergency that afternoon and has followed up since then every 2-4 weeks. I wanted to get her and the team there something for Christmas. My initial (very unoriginal thought) was chocolates but she has always been very disparaging about sweets and chocolates for obvious reasons! Any suggestions or am I massively overthinking this?

You should see our staff room, the staff argue they don't have to follow the advice as they get there treatment for free. I'm sure biscuits/chocs would be most appreciated. As would a card with a few words in and a review on Google. Glad your daughters getting sorted.

Fab - thank you! I will do that. Do over-subscribed NHS dentists need reviews?!

Yes, because we always get some rubbish ones, usually from people we've never even seen or missed there appointment and are then annoyed they have to wait to be seen. A few nice ones balances it out. We read ours out, good and bad in our staff meetings.

A letter or a card.
All day , every day all of us and our teams have negative things said to us , from the ubiquitous "I hate the dentist" to "I'm paying for your next holiday/Ferrari" to " I want to make a complaint" when all you and your team are doing is your best in a very broken system. People take their problems out on you , rather than the politicians who broke the system . People find it easier to criticise the team rather than accept some of their lifestyle choices have caused their problems.

It is very, very wearing and adds to the considerable stress.

I can't say how much a heart felt card or letter to the team lightens the day up and how far appreciation goes to lift the spirits.

My son's dentist was the same. Really caring and kind and did amazing work that other dentist wouldn't touch.
I got them a box of biscuits and wrote a heartfelt card thanking them for being so wonderful.

Biscuits/ chocolates for all the staff with a card is the best idea.
Our staff room has a lot of biscuits and they all disappear!

Fine - I will stop worrying about the dental team’s teeth then!!

Their teeth are a bit of a weird thing to consider here. They’re responsible enough to know how to maintain healthy teeth after eating chocolate as a one off, I’m sure it won’t lead them to immediate tooth decay

A bottle of something or chocolates and a card would be appreciated!
My DH is a dentist and he often gets bottles of whiskey and sweet treats.
He tells people all day to limit their sugar intake but he can't half demolish a pack of chocolate digestives when he wants to 😂 his excuse is he knows he's brushing properly so he's fine 😂🙈

@SouperNoodle, I think we are married to the same dentist! My DH has an unbelievably sweet tooth but when challenged says it's fine because he knows how to clean his teeth properly. In the run-up to Christmas, he comes home laden with chocolate/cakes/whisky/wine from patients - this year it started yesterday, in fact. It would never have occurred to me to take my dentist a Christmas present before I married one. One patient has a son who works for a top Champagne producer and we get a bottle of that every year.

OP, a card thanking your dentist would definitely be appreciated. It absolutely makes my DH's day when he gets a card from a patient; some of them are really moving. And don't hold back on the chocolates - very few dentists practise what they preach IME.

That's scarily similar! 😳 we also get a bottle of champagne each year 😂😂😂
I think we're sharing a husband 😂

Tomanyhandbags · 30/11/2022 19:28

My late husbands dentist and nurse always told us that our appointment day was their treat day as they were the only staff there, so we bought them Easter eggs and a box of chocolates when his treatment finished was so appreciated that they sent him an appointment a year later just to see how he was.

mincepiepie · 30/11/2022 19:32

My dentist is amazing and has gone above and beyond times.

I really want to buy him a practice cactus. But I'm sure if he will think that is weird.

So I'll get a box of chocs and biscuits.

Heatherjayne1972 · 30/11/2022 19:34
