Teenager job contract

I'm interested in perspectives on this. I'm asking because my own sector has very different, very specific rules around notice periods so I don't know how it works elsewhere.

DD (19) is working in retail during her gap year before university. To put this in context, this is a stop-gap job and not what she wants to do long term. Also, both retailers in this scenario are big household names, not small independent businesses.

She is contracted 8 hours per week at Shop A but regularly scheduled to work more (i.e. 20+).

She's a bit fed up where she is for numerous reasons. She's been offered a job at a different retailer (Shop B) - more hours, more money, more responsibility.

Problem is, Shop B desperately want her to start in 2 weeks time (build up to Christmas). Her notice period at Shop A is 4 weeks so this doesn't compute.

What are her options?

If I were her, and I didn't need a reference, I'd either call in sick for the last couple of weeks or just leave.
Or as job A is only 8 hours pw, could she do both jobs for a couple of weeks.

Thank you.

Calling in sick isn't an option because these stores are in the same mall so there's a very high chance of being seen.

With regard to running both in parallel for a couple of weeks, can she insist on just working her contracted hours and not being allocated any extra? Is that a thing?

Holiday from Job a?

No employer can insist you work more than your contracted hours. So she can simply state she can only work her contracted 8 hours for those last 2 weeks and take up her new job alongside. Just check her contract doesn't stipulate anything about having to work a certain amount of overtime.

Her motive period will only be for contacted hours
They cannot insist she does more than contracted hours for notice period as they are not contracted hours

Thank you - this is what I thought but I am so tired that I'm confusing myself!

@LeafHunter holiday would be the optimum but retail at Christmas is a no-go there 😕

Tell her to make sure that shop B is offering on going work and not just using her for Christmas
