Concerned about DS vomitting

Hi,

DS is 3 and was sent home from nursery Friday 12pm for wanting to vomit, lying down for hours and wasn't himself.

He was off his food, lethargic and not himself. Saturday he was poorly, this has continued to Sunday where he was sick up to 8 times. Couldn't keep anything down.

Monday, he seemed to perk up and kept some fluids and food down but didn't seem 100% was extremely tired at times.

Tuesday he's been sick a lot twice and saying his tummy hurts. Keeps perking up then going very unwell and tired very quickly.

I'm on hold to 111, does anyone have any advice? I've been to 3 shops and can't get dioralyte. I assumed it was a 24/48 hour thing but now we're up to almost 5 days

No temperature.

Sorry if this is confusing I have my one year old running about im trying to keep my eye on both of them.

My 2 year old was like this and it turned out to be covid. Took him to the GP who said he was dehydrated and to try and force fluids into him but if he vomited again to take him straight to A&E. He was sick as soon as I got him home so we went to hospital where they gave him an antiemetic and told us to give him 5ml of apple juice from a syringe every 5 mins for an hour to make sure he'd keep the fluid down and rehydrate him.

111 will likely want him to be seen. In the meantime, ensure he's drinking, even if it's little sips. Hope he feels better soon.

Wouldn't occur to me to have ring the doctor when ds was like this. It's stomach bug ,it'll go. Plenty of fluids and rest and Calpol and light foods if he's hungry.

Same as us. We ended up in a&e after days of vomiting and refusing to eat or drink.
Had an anti sickness medication and 5ml of apple juice every 15 minutes.
She started making a recovery the next day.

We also ended up admitted to hospital overnight for the same thing - once they’re dehydrated they want less and less water so it can spiral.

I assumed it was ‘just a bug’ but it got quite scary quite quickly, and with a little one I’d definitely want to over react than under react.

honeybee43 · 29/11/2022 20:06

Is he still weeing? I wouldn't be overly worried if he's not showing signs of dehydration. Or if it went on for longer than 2 weeks. It's still grim though :-(

yentirb · 29/11/2022 20:15

I've never known a bug to last thing long and for them to not vomit for a day, then start vomitting again. He can't keep food down, seems to throw up 20 mins after eating. I only gave him food because he was alright yesterday.

The out of hours GP is going to ring within two hours

Is he constipated?

My dd had no temp, tummy pain and puked when she was constipated.

yentirb · 29/11/2022 20:16

He's had normal bowel movements everyday, once a day. Usually does two, but he's not been eating much of anything due to throwing up

Dd had a vomiting bug in September and the vomiting did go on for a few days. She continued to have diarrhoea for about two weeks and then resumed vomiting. I took her to the gp when she started being sick again and they tested her. It was norovirus. These things can stick around for a while it seems and it is possible to pick up bugs while you’re getting over one. Also stomach bugs can make the lining of the tummy sensitive so even when the virus is gone, the stomach is still not recovered. I’m not medical but this is what the dr told me.

yentirb · 29/11/2022 20:25

@Smearywindowsagain thanks for sharing that I hope your dd is okay now. Im not good in these situations so Im extra anxious which isn't helping, he seems alright now playing with his little brother. Had a loose bowel movement so will keep an eye on him

Sounds like Norovirus. My then 18th old LO had it last winter; an entire week of vomiting almost instantly when he ate or drank milk. He lost so much weight, he was like an emaciated starvation victim by the end of it. I had to really slowly wean him back onto food over days 7-10. Absolutely awful. I pray we never get it again!
Keep your LO hydrated, lots of fluids, ice lollies, Diarolyte. Very dry and plain foods when he can stomach them.
If no change after a week or you’re concerned it’s getting worse I’d see the GP.

Smearywindowsagain · 29/11/2022 21:03

@yentirb I’m not good either. have terrible health + general anxiety myself. These things are very triggering. I’m sure he’ll be fine. Try to reframe the sickness in your mind. It’s his body ridding itself of illness, doing what it’s supposed to. Unless he starts getting dehydrated there’s no reason to panic.

yentirb · 30/11/2022 02:38

Doctor said if DS continued to be in pain or to vomit to contact again, just woke up wrenching and sobbing. Never seen him this upset, DH also getting on me at that he can't take time off to mind younger DS.

So he's actually in pain? How is that presenting?

whateveryouwantmetosay · 30/11/2022 02:44

Can you take him in OP? My DD had this a few years ago and a few hours of fluids and anti nausea meds were required.

Valhalla17 · 30/11/2022 02:45

If it's abdominal pain don't discount something like appendicitis. I would be getting him to urgent care to be seen.

yentirb · 30/11/2022 03:47

It's general tummy pain I've felt his stomach he doesn't seem worse in any particular area, still no temp but he was very upset and wrenching and really uncomfortable. I've managed to calm him down and give him some calpol which he's kept down so far. He's sleeping on couch, 1 year old DS has started with constant coughing so he's asleep on couch also.

111 have arranged GP to call me back, likely he will need to be seen so waiting to arrange that and also sorting chikdcare out for younger DS because DH has to go to work and I really dread bringing a vomitting poorly 3yo and bringing a 1 year old with me. But will do if need be

DS hasn't been sick yet, advised by doctor to resume Normal food but nothing greasy spicy or citrusy. He's feeling terrible, not dehydrated but feeling nauseous. Just want this over with now really it's horrible seeing him poorly
