Bathroom radiator / towel rail versus just a towel rail?

We're about to renovate our bathroom, and were wondering if anybody had any views on whether we could make do with just a heated towel rail in there or if a radiator / towel rail combination would probably be necessary?

The room is only very small, but it's an old Edwardian house so we don't want the room to be freezing.

Any thoughts / experiences welcome!

Ours is a modern house and we chose dual fuel radiator ladder so lots of horizontal bars to help dry the towels. The ones that have just one or two bars you hang the towels over feel like they wouldn't dry towels effectively quickly, more just keeping them off the floor. I am happy to be corrected, we have never had them.

Ours have a lot of horizontal rails in contact with the towels. The towels are bath sheets and are folded and then put onto the rail but go half way down the back of the rails too. Does that make sense? There are only 2 towels on them; the children have their own bathroom and we have ours. In summer the towel rails come on due to a fused spur (required) with built in timer which is brilliant to enable drying. Previously the bathroom could smell a bit damp.

My sister has an Edwardian house, so beautiful. Sadly none here in school catchment.

I have a huge radiator and then bought a towel rail to fit onto it - similar to the photo. Keeps the room really warm.

Plumber told me towel rails don't really heat the room like a rad. I'm changing to a rad when I get round to it.

Get a black towel rail. Churns out the heat. Noticeably more than the crappy silver ones.

In our last house, the towel rail didn’t really heat the small bathroom all that well, but in my current house, it’s much better, so it’s probably about getting a powerful one.

Sorry, I can’t tell you anything technical about it - it was here when we moved in.

We've just renovated our house. Our ensuite only has a decent sized towel radiator and it's lovely and warm! No radiator needed.

I have a white towel rail in my small bathroom and it's fine.

We have one of these and it makes our bathroom lovely and warm an obviously dries the towels well.

You need to look at the btu of the towel rail. If you use the calculator here it will tell you what btu you need for your room size.

Some heated towel rails have as good a btu as radiators and it is lovely having warm towels.
