I have had some kind if virus or something for a few days. Kept fever and general misery down with paracetamol etc.

last night i woke up just drenched in sweat temp of 40. Paracetamol etc has brought it down to 39. Something. Im not sure if i should be worrying about this!

i have no other symptoms other than fever now i had a slightly runny nose last night that might have been my sheer heat!

Covid tests are negative no one else is ill i feel a bit silly going to the doctor with JUST a fever ! Plus is incredibly hard to actually get an appointment

at what point is fever in adults a problem do i stick it out a few more days? Ice never had fever with nothing else before!

I would’ve expected a fever to break within a few days. I think you need to consult someone but like you I’m unsure as you seem otherwise well.

I think this is one of those that a pharmacist would be a good first port of call.

I've had 4 days of 39-40 and I'm not concerned, normal temps for a fever which has a purpose. It's just bloody awful because it aggrevates my other health conditions and is severely painful. It feels like torture but it's not a safety issue. I was breathless in the night but seemed to have improved a little now.

I check every so often and will call GP if it goes above 40 and the other symptoms get much worse. It depends on the cause and surrounding symptoms.

To add, I'd be more concerned if there's no symptoms as you're fighting something.

Take ibuprofen as well as paracetamol, that really helps keep fever down. Paracetamol aren't always enough on their own. And don't layer up - keep the room cool and have a fan gently blowing in the distance (not on your skin).

I had the most horrific temperatures with Covid. Took about 6 days for that part to pass and I remember one awful night sitting with a tepid towel around my shoulders as I felt so hot.

I had a fever with covid just sat it out, on top of the normal otc medications.

I didn't realise it was supposed to be a concern if its accompanying a virus, only when it's something like a skin infection.

I had a very bad dose of Covid undiagnosed, after 2 weeks called the doctor, explained the symptoms, his reply:-
Take paracetamol, rest and call me again if you can’t breathe - thanks doc

Be careful with a high fever and shallow breathing it can turn to pneumonia very quickly,

Mumsnet can often have a weird attitude towards fever (in kids or adults), I often read that fevers shouldn’t be treated.

I always treat a fever with paracetamol and ibuprofen. I would see how it goes over the next couple of days, it will probably break.

Keep an eye out for symptoms of spesis and pneumonia.

Have a read of the NHS webpage on fever.

Wowijustgiveup · 29/11/2022 09:46

I have been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but its not really helping that much!

i did have pnumonia and sepsis a few years ago so ill keep an eye out for any chest problems. I am about to take the next dose of ibuprofen now im hoping that will bring down the fever a little!
