Shingles on face? Or trigeminal neuralgia

I’ve had cold/burning affecting the nerve line in one side of my face for a few days ( from ear through jaw and cheek up to corner of eye and corner of my lip) , anyone who’s had shingles how long did it take from first tingling to blisters/spots?

i had Covid last week which I know can be a trigger.

i also have trapped nerve in neck so not sure if this if singles or trigeminal neuralgia, I have an atypical version anyway so it may just be developing :(

If u think you have shingles you need anti virals asap ( and certainly within 5 days )
although if you don’t have any blisters I am not sure how it could be diagnosed yet

Facial shingles can be v serious so please get checked out

I suffer on and off with TGN - and this sounds just like it when I get an attack.

I had shingles on my neck and the tingling and weird sensation started a full week before blisters appeared.

The change in the temperature over the past weeks have been affected my tn. Yesterday was a particularly bad day as it was colder. I have never had shingles

I've had shingles on my neck and the blisters arrived at the same time as the pain/ tingling.

I've not had shingles but do have diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and neck neck spine issues relating to another condition. In a flare up the TN presents as an extremely intense electric shock type of pain, utterly awful and knocks me sideways when it hits. Cold wind in my ears can trigger it at this time of year, as can lots of chewing or talking.

If it's a new sensation I'd be more inclined to assume there might be a dental or sinus issue issue causing nerve pain and would get a check up if you've not had one recently. I find cooling gel packs kept in the fridge useful to hold against the side of the face, or use as a pillow, but I know others find heat helps.

I'd try and speak with a dentist or GP if it persists.

Thanks. I have a disc issue on neck which poses on spinal cord and does squash TN nerve but it is constant rather than the shock hence it being ‘atypical’. It’s just the burning/cold/tingling/numb sensations are new. I’m on pregabalin anyway, but will see GP tomorrow ASD think I need to get neck seem to, it was being left as wasn’t causing issues but it very much is now

OP please have this checked out immediately just in case. A friend had undiagnosed facial shingles for six days before being rushed into hospital as an emergency as they were at risk of losing the sight in their eye and the hearing in one ear, as well as brain damage and facial paralysis. It was touch and go, with five days on drips. Don't just wait and see. If caught early shingles is quickly treated with oral anti-virals.

Thanks, GP was stumped so is asking pain clinic if can try the TM meds along with pregabalin I’m already on.

Thinks it could be a sinus infection too on antibiotics and a steroid spray just in case
