Car bonnet wont close!!

Im right in thinking this needs fixed and car shouldnt be driven until its fixed? Im worried about bonnet flying open and smashing the windscreen.

The latch that you use to open it is holding it, but when you drop it to shut it, it stays as if its 'popped' and ready to open. Think the lock catch is seized or snapped, when i move the lever to pop the bonnet, i can see a part moving back and forward but it isnt attached to any of the mechanisms so doesnt hold it closed.

Anyone had this before, and was it an expensive bill at the garage...?

This exact same thing happened to me with my fiesta. I dont know if it was safe to drive, I was worried about the boot flying open so didn't drive it. A bit of WD40 in the latch sorted the issue for a short period but it did need to get fixed by the garage. My mechanic sorted it when doing the MOT. Dont think it cost me much to fix. Good luck!

Mine is a fiesta as well!!! Wonder if its a common fault... will get it to a garage after work and see what they can do.

Didnt want to risk using it so got a taxi to work today.

I had a bonnet fly up and smash the windscreen once. It was unexpected and terrifying. Getting a taxi is the right choice!

Definitely don't drive your car - that could cause a fatal accident.

It shouldn't be a big deal to fix though - just give the garage a ring when they open.

Little update...

After work, gave kwikfit a phone and they said that if it needed a part and a proper repair then its not something they could do, but if i took it in they would have a look as its a common fault. So drove over, lovely guy went out straight away to have a look, fixed it, had a good chat with me about what happened and how to prevent it or fix it if it happens again, and refused to take a penny for it!

Really restores your faith in humanity when you go somewhere and they are just happy to help, especially when its a big organisation where you expect to be charged for walking through the door!
