I'm a mess

I've totally lost myself. I work, do chores then waste hours on my phone.
I've put on weight and I can't remember the last time I exercised.
My dc are teenagers so they don't need lots of attention and I just waste my time when I could be doing so much more for myself. I have no hobbies.
I used to love reading but can't focus on a book any more.
I've got lots of Netflix shows that I've earmarked to watch but never seem to.
I eat too much rubbish (meals are healthy) and go to sleep far too late.
I really need to sort myself out!

We've all been there. I think by the time your kids are teenagers you run out of energy.

I strongly recommend HRT. I wish I had started it sooner.

Sorry to read that you are feeling this way @SoundsOfThunder 💐

Now you have written down all the things you want to change. Make a bullet list of priority for you. Then pick one thing on your list, do that for a few weeks then add another thing.

Things maybe like having early nights. Going for a walk a few days a week etc. Having a Netflix night.

I write myself a list at night of things, I want to do for me the next day. I pin it on my fridge. For example tomorrow. I have read a magazine and go for a long walk. I also have days where I limit my screen time or days where I allow myself a good few hours reading threads on here.

Are you feeling well within yourself otherwise?

HRT because she has no hobbies other than scrolling on her phone?

What do you want to do? Sign up for a course, so much on zoom nowadays, it's fab.

Following this thread as I'm in the same position x

Be kind to yourself OP.
HRT did help me focus and reconnect with things I used to enjoy (reading and crafting) which has been good for my mental health. Bit of a positive spiral. Took about a month to feel the effects. After lockdown with homeschooling tweenies and doing my own job I've felt bloody knackered , listless and like things were sort of pointless, and my sleep schedule was shot. Ordered some fast dissolve melatonin from Piping Rock (advice from another thread) - what a game changer. Had so much energy after a week of good sleep I even did some tidying today.

I literally fixed this exact problem by going to bed at 9:30 every night, getting up at 6, doing chores in the morning and sleeting social media.

Are you depressed? It’s I offend to get out of the house, especially since it gets darker earlier and the weather is shit. It breaks up the day. Would you consider volunteering or perhaps a walking group? Physical exercise will help you feel good - I like what a previous poster said - positive spiral. You could find something that works for your body (eg yoga works for me but not running). Start with one thing you want to change eg buy less unhealthy food and replace with healthy snacks.

Thanks for responses. I am of an age that hrt could help, I suppose.
I feel like I don't have time to do things but I obviously do as I spend so much time on my phone. I feel tired but staring at phone, lack of sleep, too much sugar, lack of exercise probably does that too, right?
Im going to limit my phone time tonight and give myself a bedtime for 10.30. See what happens.

Sleep is quite a bedrock I think.
Going to sleep at the same time every night has helped me a lot.
I also take HRT which helps stop me waking in the night.

Do you have your phone in the bedroom OP?

Scyla · 29/11/2022 09:32

That's an over simplification of OPs post. Running out of energy for anything is what happens as your hormones deplete to nothing.
